Knee locking

When I play football sometimes after jumping my knee will fully lock and will make me fall over and roll ankle, however there is no pain from the knee afterwards or before. Anyone have any ideas what this could be?

I can hyperextend both knees without pain if this helps to identify a causeĀ

That happened to me too. Several times. This was after I had a femur break. They put a rod in the femur and didn't see my ligament on inside of knee was torn away from knee. So for a year I did not have a working ligament. I kept telling them my knee was locking for awhile and then it started twisting in place and locking. That was so dang painful. They couldn't get any answers on their stupid tests cause they told me I had too much metal in my leg/knee. (I had a TKR also, actually both knees for 10 years now). I finally had to tell them to replace the knee then. They did and found a lot of wear and tear on the fake knee from all the twisting it was doing. So I was right and they weren't listening to me for a whole year! Ugh! So pay attention to your locking and make sure you're knee does not start twisting in place. That would mean a ligament is not doing what it's supposed to be doing. Because they didn't listen to me there as an entire year of twisting that wore the knee out. If they would have listened they could have gone in AGAIN and looked at that ligament and fixed it. I would not have needed the 2nd TKR.

Good grief.  Why is it that so much of the time the doctors just don't listen to us? Sometimes I wonder if they just want to end up doing a bigger and more expensive procedure.  Sorry that you had to go through this and hope you are doing well now.
