Knee locking from full squat positions

In august i landed on my knee weird playing softball and thought i tore my acl. After going to the ER the doctors did the normals manual tests on me and said it wasnt my acl but a possible knee sprain. I was relieved in took it easy on my knee for 3 months while strengthening my muscles that surround the knee gradually.

I was standing up from sitting down( in a complete full squat down, like a child squats, glutes to my calves) as i was getting up a shooting pain shot towards the side of the knee (just by the fibula) and i could not extend my knee nor could i flex it back. It locked with my knee half/3/4s bent

I fell down on my butt not knowing what to do. after trying get my knee to unlock it finally let up and unlocked. a minor sensation went down my leg after the knee unlocked.

I am trying to see if this could be a meniscus or patella issue, itband, i just down know what issue this could be or where to start. Any information on the subject would be great.

My knee has been moving when i get into bed bending my knee (indian style) getting into bed, which i have noticed over the past few weeks.

I had the same problem with my knee locking sounds like a meniscus tear. I would get youself checked out by your doctor.

Doctor would tell what the real problem is. also, you could go x-ray just to be sure.

Hi Amanda I would get it checked out if it's locking it could possibly be a meniscus tear. About 25 years ago I tore my meniscus cartilage but was told by the hospital it was a sprained ligament. I trusted their diagnosis and continued to do Taekwondo which is how I tore it in the first place. During a sparring session I completely tore it to the point where more knee was locked and I could not straighten it. I had an arthroscopy where I was told they had to remove a large part of the cartilage which left me bone on bone. It was only a short time after that I developed osteoarthritis and over time it had got worse and deformed. I was only 47 when I had to have a total knee replacement that was 14 weeks ago. So I urge you to get it diagnosed properly so that you can get it treated before it gets worse and then nurture it so that you don't end up like me. I wish I knew then what I know now and if I was only given the right advise back then I probably wouldn't be in the position I'm in now x
