knee Manipulation

Hello everyone. It's Manny again. I had my TKR back on 1 April 15 and it didn't go well. Left the hospital at 60 to 70 degree range with 10 degree extension. Had therapy 3 times a week for 5 weeks and the best I got was 88 degree bend and 6 degree extention. Went to the Surgeon today 26 May 15 and he is going to do a Manipulation on the knee On 3 Jun 15. What should I expect from this and how much pain will the pain be the same as the TKR or more or less. What pain Med should I ask for. I used 2 Percocet and 1 Valium for therapy and did not help the pain. So please advice.

I will see what everyone tells you to expect so I have an idea too.
I've had a really tough time with mine, I'm 14 weeks today. I can't imagine it being any worse that what I've already had. I trust my consultant, he's done miracles with my leg so far. I was facing a wheelchair prior to surgery, he's basically rebuilt it. If it's going to help straighten mine then I'll do anything.
Good luck x

Many years ago I had surgery on my knee and needed a manipulation.
The pain was really bad, I would say worse than having the op.
But it did not last that long.
The difficult thing was being able to straighten it again. which you have to do in order to be able to walk safely otherwise it just gives way.
3 years ago I had TKR on the knee. I was not allowed to leave hospital until I had got bend to 85 degrees and was in for 9 days.

I had manipulation a several months after both of my TKRs. You will be under general for approx 30 mins and the consultant will bend the knee to break the adhesions that have formed. You should then wake up with a CPM machine exercising your knee. You will use this as much as possible, whilst in hospital, and you control it yourself. You shouldn't be in much pain.
The first one I had was very successful and I could straighten my knee perfectly. The second one was not, and I am struggling to walk with such a bent and sore knee. My consultant thinks that I have excess scar tissue and may therefore need the knee opened up again nearer the year anniversary of the original operation...not good news.
Hope yours is successful and that you start to make good progress.
