Knee not hurting so much, cancel scope?

Posted , 3 users are following.

I have had pain in my right knee for years. It is progressively getting worse. I saw the Dr as my knee was locking randomly. The pain was moderate and bad at times. PT made it worse. The steroid injection did not help at all. The Dr said he thought maybe a tear in the meniscus or the bone needing "sanding". He scheduled an arthroscope for next month. The past week it hasn't hurt nearly like it was and hasn't locked in a month. Should I cancel? Am I just "kicking the can down the road" so to speak if I do? Don't want unnecessary surgery, but on the plus side, I'd like to get rid of the pain AND my deductible has already been met for the year. Advice?

thanks

    Hi Victoria

Just wondering how long after the steroid injection did the pain cease maybe it took a while before it had the desired effect i could be wrong its just a thought

and seek the help of your GP and specialist about taking it further

    Best of luck.

It was over 2 weeks when the pain let up. I saw the Dr 2 weeks after and it was still hurting. That is when he scheduled the 'scope.

Victoria- it takes  a couple of weeks for (some people) cortisone injections to help with the pain. However, my experience they only worked the first time and within 4 months the pain returned. I did have the arthroscopic surgery to repair the meniscus and then I got arthritis. Finally I had to have  TKR. I had it done 1-year ago and I am still working and exercising my knee. My bend is not that good and is still hurts. Make a wise decision. Many people in this forum have done wonderfully with TKR. There is so much knowledge and experience in this forum and the people speak from their experience and heart. You are the only one that could make the decision. However, if the knee stop hurting- you can always postpone the arthroscopic surgery. Best of luck. Juanita

      Best of luck.

      Johnny.
