Knee pain?

Hi all,

I have posted here a few times as I believe I could possibly have fibro. I read the forum most days and relate to a lot of what is being said.

I just wanted to ask, do any of you get really bad pain in your knees and thighs? (Going up to the pelvis/hips area) I'm not sure if it's muscle pain or bone pain, I'd describe it as being similar to growing pains only 10x worse.

I've been suffering with the knee pain for about a year now but it seems to be getting worse. I was referred to a physiotherapist who sent me for mri scans on my spine and pelvis (both fine), but then was discharged despite her telling me she would get to the bottom of it for me.

I've since been back to my GP who has referred me back to physio?? I have asked about seeing a rheumatologist but was told they didn't feel they could help me. sad

I'm so fed up of feeling run down all the time. I'm only young I want to be out enjoying my life but I'm in pain every day. I get poorly so often. On top of this I suffer with anxiety on a daily basis too, particularly health anxiety. I think my GP puts a lot of my symptoms down to that but the pain is so real.

Thanks for reading x

    hi Lucyseven

I am sorry to read you are having a tough time, it is hard when you are sent from pillar to post, and there is no answer or help forthcoming.

One of the many pains I have are in my knees, pain radiates up to my hip/thigh and down to my ankle, painkillers don't really help, a hot water bottle does ease it a bit.

keep going and asking for answers, it does take time to get anywhere, but, you have to keep asking! After 4 months, I am at last seeing the specialised CMAT team in 2 weeks time, no doubt there will be more X rays and tests, but if it means a diagnosis, it will be worth it, if only for my own peace of mind!

    Take care, gentle hugs. Xx

    Hi Lucyseven

Poor you, just be passed from pillar to post. You need to go back to your GP and insist on being referred to a rheumatologist and to carry out blood tests to rule out any other possibilities. Stress doesn't help fibro either and you need to stay calm and positive until you get confirmation from the rheumatologist.

    Gentle hugs wink xx

Hi Lucyseven I feel for you eing pushed from pillar to post and not getting no where A rheumatologist is normally the person who diagnoses fibro he also likes to rule out rhumatoid arthritus before diagnosing fibro. Your gp really needs to send you to see a rheumatologist. the rheumatlogist I saw sent me for a bone scan more bloods and did a pressure point test on different parts of the body their 18 in total.would it be possible for you to see another gp who may be a bit more understanding. couldnt some one go with you for support. I too have pain in my knees and hips sometimes its very difficult to walk. take care gentle hug

    Thank you all for replying.

The pain was almost unbearable last night, didn't get to sleep till about 4am and when I got up this morning the pain was still there.

I will keep pestering the doctors and hopefully they will agree to let me see a rheumatologist. I don't want to go back to physio it was too painful last time.

As I say I've had it for over a year but right now it's worse than ever, I can't help but worry that it could be something serious.

    Take it easy guys x

Poor you life is certainly not fair and pain is such a horrible condition to deal with. I also have back, knee and hip pain, in my case it is due to muscle imbalance in my leg, worn discs in my back compounded with the dreaded fibro. I have exercises from my physiotherapist and I take medication for the fibro.

If your scans etc don't show any bone abnormalities then the problem may be soft tissue. It sounds like you need to get a new physio that is more gentle with you and also insist your doctors refer you to a rheumatologist who is up to date and knows about conditions like fibro etc.

Finally I hope you have discovered the joy of hot packs(hot water bottles) and cold packs. I use heat on my lower back, mmmm so comforting. I use a cold pack on my knee as it helps with any inflammation and aids healing.

Best of luck I hope you find some relief soon.

      Meg

I have most of my pain in my knees, hips, legs. It is an 'achey flue like' pain...throbbing. My knee joints are stiff.

I do see a rhematologist, She was th one who diagnosed me and treats me. I see her every three months or more if needed. I am presently taking cymbalta and an anit anxiety when needed. It helps but does not stop the flare ups. Flare ups are generally caused by stress, doing way to much and weather.

Anxiety is also part of my FM. I am very active ... A photographer, artist, hiker, skiier. I won't let this bring me down. When I do have a flare up I make sure I take it easy, sleep as much as I need and relax ... I meditate and practice yoga read. I have learned to manage this awful illness with the help of my rhematologist and doing what is best for me. Hope this helps
