Hi Stella
I had partial replacement 17 months ago . In my opinion it's pretty simple to tell if you need one and that is your quality of life is suffering . I did not have pain at all really but was bone on bone , knee had become very knocked knee and I just had no stability in the knee . Could not do stairs without holding tight to the railing . Walking any distance was difficult / awkward .I now have my life back 🙌🏻. I waited way to long to get it taken care of . Hope this helps .

HI
Thank you to everyone that has replied its a big help. I also have waited too long, I don't have pain when I am not moving but not I am unable to put any weight on my knee and cannot walk any distant one X-ray 4 years ago said bone on bone now but most recent X-ray shows moderate degeneration so I am little confused and when I ask I don't get a straight answer.. I am in Sheffield Uk has can anyone recommend a really good knee surgeon. I have done some research but any help would be appreciated thanks.

Hi Stella, I had total knee resurfacing 5 weeks ago ...I'm recovering well...I live in Hampshire and my surgeon was professor David Barrett..if you look him up you will see all procedures he does and full information ...

At this point I do not need to have other one done . The right was so bad because at 20 I tore the meniscus and the completely removed it . Then years of high mileage running just took its tole on that same knee . My left one is ok except that I fell few years back and fractured knee cap. Had to wear brace for one month . It never been same , I have some issues with it at times but it no where near the point of replacing like the other knee . Had I not had that meniscus removed ( that how they did it years ago apparently) I probably wouldn't have needed the replacement .
Anyhow now I am kind to the knees ! No crazy workouts and no running .

I went through a living hell I was in so much pain. Even though TKR is awful, it was worth it.
It is much better If you r having TKR to make sure your weight is under control. I was 105 which helped immeasurably. The surgeon stated that it was a lot easier that he didn’t have to deal with fat.
Start PT ASAP. I did and I am still doing PT on my own constantly. It pays off. I was at 132 very quickly.
There is one thing that is the most important. Make sure your surgeon knows what he is doing.. Look on the internet to see if there are any complaints. Get the best surgeon you can find.
Good luck and God bless!

I have arthritis in both knees, I had a tkr 5 weeks ago on my right one. That one I was in constant agony with, knee used to lock in a bent position so couldn't put any weight on it for up to 40 minutes at a time. I'm getting my 2nd one done next year. You know yourself if you can't live a normal day to day life. Good luck

I had my right knee done with tkr. That was 9 weeks ago.
Yes most of the pain will be in the first 4 weeks.
I was driving in 6 weeks
right now most of my pain is gone except one spot to the left of knee cap. Still have little swelling in knee I'd be off my pain meds. I can deal with the stiffness and knee muscles tightening up in me
You should be bending your knee within one week after surgery.
My knee was bone on bone for 10 years. And was on pain pills all this time. My decision was simple enough, was tired of being in pain and taking pain meds.
Right now if it wasn't for this little tender spot I

Thank you for that I know I will have to have my knee done as I can no longer walk only around the house. I am just having a problem with my back I suffer wit sciatica which is giving me pain in both legs the thought of coping with that as well as the knee replacement is little worrying. I am 63 and just feel a little sorry for myself at the moment as in constant pain from my back most of the last 6 month but I'm sure it will get better. The way I am looking at it is if I can get rid of one problem(the knee) then I can hopefully sort out the back promblem. Glad to hear you are doing well
