Knee Pain

I am 3 weeks post THR. I am doing very well except for difficulty straightening my knee. Every step I take I have to deliberately think push knee back to straighten...your leg/knee must be atraight to carry your weight obviously. Anyone else know what I'm talking about?

Yes I do. I never had knee pain until my left replacement. It has been 12 weeks, I am going CRAY CRAY

the posts are littered with people having different aches and pains after surgery . it boils down to muscle strength and other muscles and joints taking up the load and walking slightly different . Keep up the exercises and push through and it will all subside. Mine was sore calfs for about a week then it just disappeared when I started walking without aids etc .

The strange thing is I walked perfectly, no pain into 2 week checkup....the next day knee and calf swelled...now can't put full weight on leg and am back to walker. I'm sure just temporary setback.

yes i understand but this is because following my right hip i have also had a full right knee replacement. . it is important to stand tall and lock the knee out for stability. it is s conscious act at first, but gets easier and more automatic with practice. hopefully you are also working with a physio who will give you specific exercises to do. Good luck!

Keith is right . Your gait will have changed and that puts added pressure on other parts of your leg/back. I am 12 weeks post op and having terrible trouble with my knees but it will pass once your body hets used tonit. you may also have swelling behind your knee which will contribute. Are you icing regularly on your hip and knee?

i have found that the recovery is not a straightline. from one day to the next there are different consequences ans symptoms. It is frustrating but with time and work each passes

    Joy,

You are only three weeks post op, you are still healing inside, you have had a big op, outside might look like it is healing but, it does take time on the inside, you will get various aches, twinges etc, this may go on for a few weeks yet. I think the twelve week mark is a good timeline to head for to feel 'normal'. When you do walk, walk heel to toe it will stop any limping.

The strange thing is I went to my 2 week checkup....walking perfectly with no pain. The next day my knee swelled up as well as my calf...and then trouble straightening leg....and the need for walker again. I'm sure this is a temporary setback...but it's kinda discouraging.
