Knee pain after hip replacement surgery

Posted , 11 users are following.

Hi folks

I had a right hip replacement 4 weeks ago and I feel my right knee is leaning towards my left knee . I have pain on the outside of the leg by this knee. I still got some pain in my hip but I expect that for now .

Has anyone else experienced this knee problem ? I go to physio next Tuesday

Thankyou

Irene

Your leg muscles are probably still weak as they recover you may find things improve

Hi Irene, I am 9 weeks post op tomorrow and had terrible swelling and pain in my knee up until a week ago, thankfully the swelling has now gone and just have a dull ache now. I still have quite a lot of groin pain and thigh pain, my physio guy said it is to be expected for a while yet as everything is still settling down. I have my follow up appointment at the hospital next week so will see what they say. It’s still very early days for you, so🤞🏼You’ll start feeling better over the next few weeks.

Thirteen weeks on from a hip fracture, and my knee has been troublesome for the past fiveweeks. It’s difficult to know how much to exercise and how much to rest the knee. I can’t weight-bear, since the knee feels very unstable, as well as having dull aching. In my case, there is metalwork all down the femur and near to the knee, so I guess that contributes.

I wish I could offer you advice or tips! At least you know you’re not alone in experiencing knee problems.

Hi Irene, l also had total Hip replacement 4 weeks ago, (right Hip) and l have had pain in my right knee, but it's getting better, there's still a lot of hardness in my leg, theres no more swelling as I've been icing and elevating my legs every day. So I've been putting heat on it and light massage and that is helping a lot, how is your mobility?

    I hope this helps.
