have osteoarthritis in knee BUT I ALSO have fallen four times as its just given way when walking and is now locked. Have had xrays and its not broken...and the GP is simply assuming its due to arthrirts but its SO painful....should I just wait and see if it unlocks or ask him to help me find a solution to this agonising pain?

Sorry to hear about all the pain and the locked knee, it's a difficult way to live. I struggled along with my bad knees for 9 years, knowing that replacement was the next thing I could do. After a weekend vacay I really overdid the walking and one knee locked up. I was left walking with a limp. I managed that for a few months, but it really starting bothering my hip and back. I decided it was time to get serious about the replacement and visited with several different orthopedics. Exactly 5 months after it locked up I was in the hospital having them both replaced. Today's been a really good day and as I was walking up some steps I thought about how good I felt. It was worth it. It's almost exactly 5 months after the surgery and it's been filled with challenges and successes. I'm not 100% yet, but I'm way better off than I was a year ago.

So, that's my story, we all have different paths we've walked. My personal opinion is to see a specialist. Figure out what you are willing to live with and for how long. Osteoarthritus will never repair itself, the damage is done. How I managed bone-on-bone as long as I did amazes me. Praying these new knees last as long as I do. Keep us posted on what happens.
