You can choose older posts by picking through the page numbers shown on the KNEE PROBLEMS main page. Look to the right of the page subtitle "All discussions in this group" and you will see page 1 but flick on the arrow to see other previous pages also.

You may like to go to my profile by clicking on the image next to my name. I kept a journal of my own knee replacement journey, and I have been told by several people they found it helpful to read, or skim through. It's got a lot of general information in it, and gives you one person's experience right from hospital to the 12 month mark!

I had mine on april 16 2018. I was not prepared for the pain I had following surgery. At least you are on this site reading before surgery. I found it after. The first 3 weeks were the hardest. I cried everyday, alot of times I cried myself to sleep. I could not exercise for 1st 2 weeks because of swelling and pain. The 3 rd week it got slightly better, I could walk with no pain and put my knee straight but the bend was only at 58. I am now on my 5th week and what a difference. I walk 1 mile a day. sleep through the night. No pain meds not even Tylenol. I got my flexion to 96 with the help of therapy. I can ride my stationary bike and do stairs with the help of the rails. I am still learning to walk without a limp because I did that for 2 years but its coming along. Im so happy I got it done because before surgery I could not even walk 1 block. You will be happy when it heals just going to take time and pain so be prepared for that.

Identical experience...totally unprepared for the pain.  Rehabbed a new hip in six weeks total...thought this would be the same.  WRONG!!!!!!!  It's all about expectations, even during the recovery.  Things like: "I should be better by now..."  WRONG!!!!!!!  The knee controls the recovery, not your expectations!.  We humans always have to learn the hard way...

I am 8 weeks after tkr and today was my first visit with the gym class. I have achieved a bend of 108° and talking to the other 2 men who were at different stages 1 at 12 weeks he was struggling and 1 at 4 months, he was absolutely fab could bend his knee fully abs felt really well although he did admit the first 3 months were absolute hell. After seeing, talking to him I am so much more positive about my own tkr. So looking forward to the next 2 months and hopefully will feel as he does

It's been almost 2 years since my TKR, and my knee is actually worse. I wish I never would have had it done. However, I know I am in the minority, as it seems to be a positive result for most.

    I hope yours is successful.

Your not we are in an elite group we love the pain and agony that goes with it Well it sounds better then complaining although I have done my share over the years. My Last TKR was May 9 2016 every day it hurts somedays are much worse then others in fact the pain in my knee has gotten to the point I had to see another Dr. to make a long story short I am going to need another TKR soon. Does not sound to bad until I mention I have already had 17 surgeries all on the same knee this also includes 5 TKR's. All of this truly gets to me at times ( well lets be honest all the time ) I still wish one day this nightmare will conclude and things can get back to normal.

I had my right knee done in Oct 2016 & left Dec 2017. I have absolutely NO regrets!

No more pain! Who wouldn't be happy with that.

Yes it is a brutal operation & some can have a really rough time of it after the op, I'm not going to gloss over it. Read some of the posts on here ........

I am so glad I had both knees done.

One last thing.......read, & take heed off, whatever Chico Marx posts or replies to.

I say go for it- I think Chico Marx covered the experience perfectly.  I am almost 6 post TKR and I can now say I feel well for the first time in 2 years.  Pick a surgeon you have total faith in and get the best physical therapist you can.  My doctor used the robotic technique and post surgery I was off of a can and walker the day of surgery.  2 years before surgery I was very ill with septic arthritis in my knee- on a walker.  It is a very difficult surgery but when it is done properly and you get relief it is a total blessing and just terrific.

I’m 14 weeks post op and am so pleased I had it done!  It’s hard much harder than the hip replacement I had done, but for The first time in nearly two years I’m not using a stick. Don’t get me wrong I still have bad days! But it’s mainly when I really push it. I swim 3 times a week and walk my lovely Labrador everyday, it’s a small hurdle to get over to receive quality of life
