Knee replacement scar tissue

I am 8 weeks post TkR, I was 45 degree bend when I left hospital and still 45 deg , straightening is fine. I saw my surgeon 2 weeks ago, he has given me till 20th March to bend it myself otherwise he will do an MUA. I do my exercises religiously but my knee feels like it has a block of cement around it. I have Hydrotherapy which the therapist has said he has never seen a knee as stiff as mine before. Is there anything I can do to help break the scar tissue ? I really need this knee bent before the 20th. Thank you

Have you tried massaging 5 to 6 times daily with E45 do you know anyone with electric recliner chairs that you can use. Found both really helpful.

Also carrier plastic bag under my heel laying flat in bed. Good leg bent slightly then slide TkR leg to bend it.  Hope it helps

Hi Natalie, find yourself a good sports injury masseur/masseuse to give it a good old pummeling. Tell them what you need to have massage for & they will tailor it for your needs.

Hi  - I am six weeks post tkr.  Female and 66 yrs young. Bend today was 96.  Straightening ok.  My Dr. has scheduled MUA for me on March 19.  During my tkr surgery my dr. caused a hairline fracture in my femur while tapping in new knee and had to insert two permanent screws.  Had to do 50 % weight  bearing for 4 weeks and on a  walker for 4 weeks.  Just graduated to a cane a few days ago.  Knee feels very stiff.  I too could use some advice about manipulation- is it worth it?

Hi Natalie, I can’t really add to everyone’s suggestions, just push yourself when exercising.  Regarding TKR though: I am 6 months post TKR and I got stuck at 90 ROM and it did not move for months!  As I’m only 50 the physio and consultant suggested I  have an MUA.  I was absolutely dreading it but found that I came round quickly, not an awful lot of pain and good bend for about 3/4 days, felt a freedom in the knee that was like lump of cement before.  However I am now 2 weeks after and the cement feeling is back! 😪It is very stiff and the muscle pain is bad from the procedure.  However when I exercise it I have got the bend up to 118 ROM, it’s just healing I guess and I’ve got to be patient but I’d definitely recommend it, for me it really wasn’t too painful.  Good luck if it does go ahead.
