Hi Hilary, I had a tkr 9 weeks ago and had a spinal and sedation, brilliant no problems, did not feel a thing and afterwards felt better than general. If you totally relax as it goes in and dont tense as it is inserted you should be fine. Best wishes for Wed x

Hilary, I just had a tkr on May 4. I was scared for the spinal the first time around but this time it went like a charm. Just try and relax and think about how good you'll be for Christmas! A brand new person. I got my clips out today so two weeks from now you'll be the same. And I have hardly any swelling. Waiting is always worse, like waiting for a baby to be born. We know it's in there and must come out, but I was always afraid. Lol. But I went through it 4 times, ha ha. Just try and relax. Lots of folks are worse than us, we have an opportunity to have a better life. Think positive. A positive attitude goes far.m

Hi Hilary, know just what you mean about the spinal, it was my biggest fear too,,particularly when I've got massive spinal issues, spinal stenosis, scoliosos, spondolosis, bulging discs etc. Both anaesthetists I voiced my fears to, said it would be a 'challenge possibly a bit tight'  I still don't k ow based on That  I got through those theatre doors!  Do you know I never felt a thing, my anaesthetist on the morning came up with a plan, he would sedate me through cannula before he inserted spinal needle, in the first go, or that's what it felt like, and next thing saw my leg floating on surgeons shoulder, hiw surreal was that! Certainly not unpleasant at all voice your fears and ask for sedation before they even go a yard near your spine, and you'll sail through it? MAssive good luck, it's not easy I know!

Hilary, don't worry. I had a spinal, and they took 3 attempts too, as I have a scoliosis of the spine. Which was caused by a previous hip replacement, but that's another story! It's not too painful, doesn't take too long to get the line in your back, and before you know where you are your legs are feeling warm, and I don't remember anything after that!! I'm 5 weeks post tkr and can maybe just maybe see the glimmer of light over the horizon. Good luck x

Thats great Hilary. If the staff are good thats half the battle. They left a lot to be desired in the place I was in. But I had a weeks rehab and they were fabulous. Bit like a care home but I acted like an OAP. Well,I am really. All the best.

      John.

Hi Hilary, so how was the spinal?   Glad it's done now for you. Take all the pain meds you are offered!!!   Once the pain gets hold its hard to get on top of it. Tomorrow you will be sore, and the Physio, they have to do their job.  Take care
