Knee Surgery

Posted , 6 users are following.

At 7 weeks, my bend was 30 degrees, i had no PT.

I finally get to see a PT and in one week my bend went to 40   degrees.

i’m doing my excercises regularly. amazingly,  my knee feels like it’s getting stronger. My question is will my knee reach 120 degrees when I’m late in the game in excercising?

Hey lorraine. I cannot answer your query however my ex neighbour contracted a wound infection and was unable to do the required exercises post surgery. He says he had some kind for laser surgery to destroy scar tissue which built up because of lack of movement. Just keep trying as hard as you can and see your Orthopaedic specialist, sooner than later.

I too was very late starting PT because of  insurance and health provider mix ups. I started PT at 6 weeks. It’s been a long year but after that PT and some follow up at around 9 months I am now 0 and 127. Still stiff but getting better with time and of course exercise. Good luck and keep at it.

thank you, my worst time now is night time, my knee is most uncomfortable, from excercising. i take a pain pill to relax. I don’t usually take pain pills but it is only thing helps me relax. Unless you of anything else I can take?  i added 5 reps to my excercise and i’m feeling it tonight.

Night is the worst. I used Vicodin at night off and on for months. Ice before bed also helped. Sleep when you can because it takes a while to get decent sleep at night. It is hard but hang in there.

Hi Lorraine! I had a slow start with therapy. So, my recovery felt like it was slow. I had home theapy for two weeks. My range of motion at home was 90. I continued to do my exercises twice a day. I didn't get outpatient therapy until after two months after my surgery, because of my insurance. My range of motion greatly improved after I started going to outpatient therapy. Now, my bend is 125 to 127. I kept doing the exercises at home, and my pain in my knee improved. Now, I just have pain in my muscle above the knee. It will take time to heal.

thank you very much for your feedback. This really is encouraging to me. I sure worried my knee won’t bend anymore. I’m do my PT two times a day. i tried increasing 5 more reps but is too much,  so i had to bump down by 5, i’ll try every other day by 5 reps. I’m praying i improve every week. thank you again.

what worry’s me is my other good leg, it’s starting to hurt, and some of my muscles are getting sore. I have sciatica, the excercise help but just can’t seem to get comfortable night time, all these aliments, I get depressed night time. I do ok during the day, i do my two sets of excercises.  Just venting, I took half a pain pill to calm down.

Hi, as you have made a leap forward almost immediately that may be a good sign. If you do not eventually reach the bend you need in due course, there is the option of manipulation under anaesthesia (MUA) where the surgeon puts us under briefly and breaks up scar tissue - if that is the issue - by bending the leg, while there is no conscious resistance. Then you usually get some extra physio  or time on a bending machine CPM to keep the bend going. I had this done and the bend was better right away.

I was told though, that it can take months or a year for your knee to keep improving. Many find it helpful to exercise in water. An exercise bike can also be good, of course following your physio advice for you. Good luck!

will this MUA get rid of the pain in knee when i sit with my leg partial down for short period of time? For example, if i sit in the front passenger side of a car, my knee is in a lot of pain, throbbing pain in one hr.
