I understand the pain of OA in knees and good fitting shoes with good arch supports along with patio therapy exercises to strengthen the tendon and muscles around the knees help strengthen the knee.
Even water exercises for for oa in knee joints help heel the joints.
Ask your doc for psio therapy for knees. I was surprised at hoe mich better my kneecap a small after 6 weeks of strengthening stretches and exercises.
peace and heeling thru your journey..

Hi Shelia,
I really can sympathise with you. I'm 68 and have been told I'm still a bit too young to do a hip replacement!
I am surprised to hear that your doctor said you can't get disability, by this does he mean a disability benefit? If this is what he means, then it's not him that decides, it's the DWP. Anyone can put in a claim for PIP and by what you say, you stand a very good chance of qualifying.

Your not to old for THR I had my first in my 40's.
it's best to do it before deterioration of the joints, bone & tissue can complicate a good recovery. take time now to do more research and perhaps get another opinion. I can lead to serious health risks.
hope your not in serious pain.
Peace & Heeling

Hi Shelia: So sorry you are going through this. It is like being in a viscious circle you can't get the exercise because of the knees but loosing weight would help. My husband has bad knees both of them severe arthritis and in the same boat as you. The doctor told him they would not operate on him because of his weight. Kind of like you are darned if you do and darned if you don't. Have you tried any injections in your knees? The first time my husband had the injections they helped him for quite a while, but unfortunately the last time they didn't work. I would also consider talking to another doctor and getting a second opinion. I know the first specialist who told my husband they never do knee replacements on anyone who is over 35% BMI so I asked my orthopedic surgeon and he said that is absolutely not true. So not all doctors will tell you the same thing. I hope you get some help soon. Wishing you well...Hugs....Barb

Hi I totally get how you feel I to have OA in both knees and in my hands I'm 39. Gp gave me a cream called capsaican you apply it 4 times a day. Also ask to be referred to occupational therapy to get and aids or adaptions you need around the house. Please apply for pip you stand a great chance of getting it. I've just applied as no way I could stand all day or do heavy manual jobs. Good luck let me know how you get on xx
