Knot in calf

Posted , 6 users are following.

It seems everyday there is still some sort of new ache or pain.  While I know that this is my body healing, some make me a bit nervous.  Today I noticed that when I walk my calf seems a bit tight--almost like there is a know in it.  Doesn't hurt, nothing more swollen than usual and no redness.  The thought of a blood clot has been the thing that has worried me the most.  Should I be worried with this new ache or is it just part of the package of healing?

Should have said "almost like there is a knot in it." - sorry for the typo

    Hi Tammie,

Blood clots are scary, so it will not hurt to have your doc check it out. My next thought was to suggest that you stretch out nicely before you walk to lengthen the calf muscle? You may already do this? And massage it with a nice oil or lotion.

Atrophy occurs quicker than we think when we are down and out and not as active before and after the surgery.

Hope this irons itself out for you soon. Another ache and pain is the last thing on our wish lists, right?!

My husband had a blood clot in his calf and the symptoms were swollen red hot and very painful. His not caused by an operation but by along haul flight. I am now 12 weeks post op and still get various aches and pains. Of course I see GP if worried

Hope today your calf is better

Hi Tammie - isn't that the truth ...wink - I was in a bad shape prior R THR surgery and oh boy, kit is a slow process - at 12 weeks post op I was hoping to be able to do a lot more - cramps and knotted muscles are part of getting stronger - if you are worried, yes, by all means have it checked out - sometimes anticipating pain or dicomfort will make it so ... take care and ake it easy and stretch gently - big hug

Hello Renee we are both at same stage. I was suffering aches in both thighs and felt as though I had done a few rounds with Mike Tyson. It was like flu in the muscles. Took myself in hand and thought about what had changed - sitting in lower sofa which needed re stuffing. Got the job done and hey presto aches have gone. Perhaps at the age of 66 and after the hip low seating not an option. Was finding getting up from sofa quite a feat. Still get some groin pain when out walking so split my six miles into two walks when possible. Not taken pain killers for weeks. Off to Scotland on Wednesday for a week with sisters. Late nights and lots of giggling in store. Also lovely walks along the the Moray Firth so camera at the ready.

Enjoy your day and hope it is pain free

I had an incredibly saw calf and could hardly do the leg raise exercise. I thought it was DVT to and went to AE. The calf was also slightly swollen but not hard and the doc thought it was likely to be post op trauma as quite a lot of manipulation goes on. However  I did have the blood test for DVT a a precaution but thankfully it was negative. It was a horrible few hours at the hosp but it did put my mind at rest.

If in doubt check it out!
