Krill Oil....

Has anyone any experience with Krill Oil?  It makes big claims about being beneficial for joint pain/arthritis, cholestrrol, heart, etc.  Apparently, a lot of athletes swear by it as it helps with pain and stiffness following hard exercise and workouts, particularly running and cycling, etc.

Claims have been made about already existing moderate/severe/chronic arthritis symptoms and pain.  However, I do not believe in "miracle cures."

I have ordered it in the hope that it will help with my second hip which already shows mild arthritis and morning stiffness.

Be interested to know how many people on the site know about Krill oil and have experience with it.

My philosophy is to try anything that may help, and if it does not, at lease I have tried to help myself.

This is an expensive product, though, but if it does what it claims, well worth the expense....!!

    Hi Susie

I use whopping amounts of fish oil and couldn't live without it. I usually take 1500mg but accidentally bought a bottle of 1000mg and forgot to increase the number of tablets I was taking. A week or so later I was in pain in lots of joints - right knee and shoulder, spine in 3 places and hands. I've increased it again and the pain has gone.

I was taking krill oil because I had heard that it was better. The chemist said it was too hard and expensive to take enough krill oil to affect arthritis. I take 6 1500mg tablets, 3 in the morning and 3 at night.

I'd be very interested to know how you go on them.

      Hi Kikeena:

Not sure I understand what you are taking.  Are you taking the Krill Oil 3x1500 mg a.m and p.m., or are you taking something else?

I have been told that Krill Oil is by far and away the better option for arthritis and other complaints.  Does your pharmacist stock Krill Oil?

Ordered mine though Amazon, so waiting for it to arrive.

       Happy New Year to you,

      Susie

No not krill oil but just plain old fish oil. It seems to do a good job for me.

Susie - I tried Krill Oil, and developed the most severe dose of indigestion, and it wouldn't go away.

Dr concerned and ordered endoscopy, found nothing other than inflamed stomach.

Talking to neighbour, some time later, and she said dr ordered same test for her, we looked at each other and said thats strange.

I asked her what tablets she was taking, and she said just painkillers, nothing else, Oh yes, krill oil, thats when the light went on, and we looked at each other in astonisment, and said "Krill Oil"?????.

We both stopped taking our krill oil, that day, and found within a week we were able to give up our chalkly stomach medication as well.

We both reported to our Dr's, or I did, that it seems to cause problems for some people.

I can and do take odorless fish oil, 6 x 1000gm a day, and they cause me no problems, they help with joint pain.

That's interesting!  I am on day three, so it is far too early to make any determination about negative side effects.  However, I do have a very sensitive stomach.  Thus far, I have had no problems, and no unpleasant "repeats," either  If I do, I will post it on the Forum and stop taking it.  Also, inform the company from whom I purchased it, and hopefully get my money back.  I know there are several levels and qualities of this oil, so it is possible that you both were unlucky.  I did a fair amount of research before investing, and did not find anything unfavourable in the various articles, but of course, they may be biased, for one reason or another!
