Schedule to have
L5-S1 Lumbar extraforaminal decompression posterior of L-5-L-4
L3-L2 and L4-S1 and Posterior Fusion of Faucet L5-S1 noninstrumented.
Have anyone have had this done and how was the recovery?
In September 2017 had Laminectomy with traforaminal decompression but failed. I am worse than What I was prior to September’s procedure.
Any input is appreciated.
Thank you

I had bi-lateral foraminal stenosis at L2/L3. It was like having sciatica down both legs plus extreme weakness. Solved instantly by a Lateral Lumbar Interbody Fusion (LLIF). General surgeon opens you up from the SIDE and clears a path to your spine. Neurosurgeon does the op; GS does the close.
For the fusion, the disk is eliminated and a device is inserted and then expanded (like a mini car jack) to fit properly and decompress all the nerve roots.. Next is a small back fill with a bone graft from your hip and it's over.
Woke up, ran the halls, climbed the stairs...immediately. One night in the hospital, no brace, no rehab. Pictures: 1. Pre-op lateral; 2. Post-op posterior; 3. Post-op lateral. You can see the huge pre/post difference. Also notice how the doc expanded the device more posteriorly than anteriorly to preserve the correct curvature of the spine at that point.
Best kept miracle spine surgery secret. You can see it above the rails and screws from my previous L3-S1 TLIF fusion. That was 12 days in the hospital, 4 months of rehab, 6 months in a brace, full year recovery. Search YouTube for "Globus LLIF" for a cute animation. Many different devices can be implanted depending on your needs and the doctor's selection. Check it out...find a neuro with a lot of experience with the op. Mine has done over 2,000 of them.
