Richard. Firstly, I will say this for the benefit of other people who read this, NEVER go cold turkey from alcohol because it is seriously dangerous and can kill you. I wish thatthis was publicised more widely. For you, personally, you have got past the danger period after 4 days and you have done really well No need to drink now to avoid withdrawal symptoms, or take medication, but I can't emphasise strongly enough that going cold turkey is a really dangerous thing to do with alcohol if you are physically dependent on it.

Regarding your thirsy, get yourself to the Dr. It sounds to me like you may be suffering from diabetes. Don't panic, it happened to me when I was 35 (14 years ago). I was in insulin very quickly and it is simply a balancing act. If you control it well, you don't have to be ill but don't ignore it, it's a very simple blood test (prick of your finger) to get a good indication of whether you are or not.

definitely get a blood test done by the doctor for diabetes. I used to drink every night and about 3 to 4 months ago was diagnosed as type 2 diabetes. My symptoms were extreme thirst, as soon as i finished a drink (water, fruit juice coke anything really) i needed another. also I was peeing every hour day and night and lost quite a bit of weight as well as feelig tired.

even without any of these other symptoms a blood test will confirm

good luck and well done for giving up the drink
