L-Lysine

Hi Everyone
I have found that the amino acid L-Lysine works wonders in keeping attacks much shorter and less severe. It has to be L-Lysine though and NOT plain Lysine. When I feel the tingles, I start taking it, normall 2 x 1000mg every couple of hours and then on about day 3, cut it down to 1000mg every hour or so. Do some research and find out which foods are high in L-Lysine and eat those and avoid foods with Arginine in them; Arginine feeds the virus so that it multiplies whereas L-Lysine inhibits it. You can take L-Lysine every day as I have read that it will help prevent outbreaks by keeping the level of the amino acid in your body high and so conditions won't be favourable for the virus to multiply. Will definitely also try the pineapple. I am also looking to start a new relationship and am petrified of telling him but it has to be done. Good luck to all of you - it's not great to have but there's not a lot we can do about it so have to make the best of it.

Hi, I know this is an old post but was just wondering what you thought of the ultimate herpes protocol please? Did you find it useful & was it legitimate? I’m always wary of buying things like that online. Any advice appreciated - thanks!

You will survive this; it's not the greatest thing to have but it's not the end of the world. For me, stress is the worst thing and will bring on an attack every time so find out what triggers yours and avoid it at all costs. I find the L-Lysine has been great in reducing the size of the blisters and the duration - works better than anything else. Keep your chin up - there are so many of us out here; you are not alone.

I'm wondering where you got your quantities from. 2000mg every couple of hours (say on a 16 hrs day) is about 16000mg!! It might be ok but I wouldn't dare taking such amount without the recommendation of a specialist. I remember some sort of interaction with calcium supplement for example.
I found in my research that a study showed that a dose of about 3000mg a day had a possitive effect while only 1250mg gave no results so I went for 3000mg a day even though on the jar they recommend half that dose (that's not a recommendation to treat herpes outbreak though).
I've been doing quite a bit of research and trials with food high in L-lysine and realised there is a trick which can easily be missed. Some food are high in lysine but even higher in arginine so you must also look for the Lysine/Arginine ratio. The higher the ratio, the better, while still having a high lysine content.
The best is cheese and other dairy products, then most meat and fish. Having a diet low in meat, I personally rely on cheese (not much of an effort for me, being French). On the other hand of the scale, any ratio <1 is bad and the worst offenders are nuts with a very low ratio and a high arginine content (nb: they are relatively high in lysine too but 3 times as high in arginine!). then, you'll get some food with a not so great ratio but the arginine/lysine content is rather small so if you put it next to a nice cheese platter (for example), it hardly makes a notch on your lysine intake.

nb: "plain lysine" is a mix of d-lysine and l-lysine but only the l is usefull to us so if you get "lysine", i'd guess you'll only get half the dose of l-lysine.

Correction to my previous comment: a study found that 1250mg/day worked but 624mg did not.
