Lab results & Symptoms that go improve/worsen during the day

Posted , 4 users are following.

We went in for a mono blood test on Friday. I know the lab was open on Monday. The tests our doc requested is a comprehensive mono test that will show whether my DD was ever exposed and whether she currently has mono.

Also, do any of you with confirmed mono have moments when you're feeling better during the day then you get worse at night? My DD suddenly perked up for a few hours yesterday (may 2-3 hours) and she said she felt better than she had since this all started 11 days ago. But by late that evening, she said her body was back to feeling like a truck ran over it.

Should have asked in the above post how long do mono tests take to come back with results.

    Thanks!

    Hey Monica,

I hope you don't have to wait too long for the mono blood test results for your daughter and that they can offer some encouragement and reassurance and a weight off your shoulders. I remember when going through mono that I had times when I would feel a bit better during the day and then at night feel quite wiped out from just having the full day, it can be very draining to get through a whole day of feeling so unwell with mono so this can be normal I think - especially for a youngster too who is still developing her strength and full immune system. This virus definitely can give you that feeling like you have been hit by a truck, that is a very common feeling and I remember feeling that too in the acute phase of mono - it all does pass Monica truly it does, just such a hard virus to go through. I know you must be worried as a parent, hoping you are coping okay. Plenty of fluids and rest at this stage really are the best things and trying to remove stress as much as possible, I know it's easier said than done though given this virus causes so much distress for the person going through it.

Let us know how the results go and keeping you and your daughter in my thoughts.

Sorry Monica forgot to mention about your second message, I really think it depends on your own doctor / medical system's processes for how long it takes to come back. I know though in our surgery it only takes 2 days for a blood test for something like mono to come back, so I'm hoping it can be very quick for you too. Worth phoning them up and finding out and keeping asking rather than waiting sometimes, I know that can be the worst part for sure.

Craig-Thanks for your messages! We finally just received the mono tests reaults and it is negative. Im very surprised!! Now lyme test results are pending. They messed up the order.

Have you heard of initial negative test results that were then later positive when symptoms didn't change? Note that whatever test they did was going to test to see if she had ever been exposed to mono, not just whether she had an active case of it.

      Hi Monica,

I really feel for you going through this time of waiting for test results and anxious to get a breakthrough to find out what's going on - this can be such a draining and horrible experience to go through Monica - I hope that you can take heart and comfort that the mono tests were negative, even though I know it's still horrible when not sure of what's going on.

Hoping and praying very much that the lyme results are also negative, I hope your daughter is coping okay with this experience at the moment and is managing to get plenty of rest and there is a good doctor who can be there for you and giving you the right advice and support.

I really don't know enough about blood tests and things to say whether that is possible that something that showed negative could be picked up later on - the one thing that is my understanding of mono is that it's important to get tested in the early stages of the symptoms as a positive diagnosis only has a window of a few weeks, so you've definitely done the right thing and got the test for mono at the right time for your daughter.

Praying for breakthrough and recovery for your daughter Monica - thinking about you and hoping very much that this is just a nasty or stubborn virus that will get better within a short space of time - remember some viruses really can knock your system and it can take a number of weeks to get back to full strength again - but definitely keep persevering with the doctors and keep knocking on their door for help as long as your daughter is feeling unwell. Praying for God's healing hand to fall on her today, in Jesus' name - hang in there Monica, thinking about you and keep in touch.

It's a good point of Katelyn - worth asking the doctor if they checked for both the EBV virus and CMV virus - both can cause the same kind of mono illness I believe, EBV is the more common but again I don't have enough knowledge to know whether a common or normal blood test for mono checks for both viruses - something maybe to ask the doc.
