Labelled Disabled

Hi All

Thanx to you bods I was succesful in getting DLA. Since then I have had a letter from the Tax Credit office. Apparently if you get DLA and are on tax credits you are entitled to the disability element of Tax Credit. :?:

The thing that spooked me is it said in black and white \"as you are disabled\". I dont like to think I am :wah:

Anyway it was cushioned by the fact that my payments are backdated to when I first claimed DLA in April, I got a nice lump sum in my account :P

Just so others in the same situation are aware they can claim

Right, off to pace myself  so I can go on a spending spree :gift:

Today I received my forms for a reassessment of my claim because I am having to ask for help with things a lot more now than when I first applied. I don't necessarily get the help because there is not always someone here, but I need it and I have to pay out more for services like cleaning and ironing, and use taxis instead of driving.

So I am in the middle of doing this reassessment form. It seems a bit greedy when I already have DLA to be saying - hey, can I have a bit more?

no it is not greedy at all! incapacity benefit and the others is so unbelieavably low that as a partially/disabled person it is just not enough to live on

when i found out how much i was expected to live on, as a person with an illness, i was in shock  after adding up all my bills i realised that it actually doesn't cover all my expenses, and when you're ill you do need to pay out for other things, for example my car :bus: i simply cannot manage public transport at the moment - its too far to walk and too stressful when im on it.

don't feel bad for asking for what you need. the government is very quick to take things from us and i dont think its wrong to expect something back in this sitation! :steam:

Hmm, I just don't like to think I am being a scrounger. I get IB at the highest rate and I also have a husband who is working so I am not as 'in need' for the bills and household expenses as you are.

However I am paying for shopping delivery, ironing, cleaning, and taxis atm because I am finding driving difficult and the bus too tiring.

    well there you go then.

and i don't think anyone with more than one brain cell could call you a scrounger.

oh i really hope i get mine sad but if it does come back as a no, ill just take it to my nice lady at CAB and maybe she can help. smile i also spoke to my doctor and told her i was filling it out as i am on the worst day, so hopefully she'll back me up on that.

i do get furious when people go on about scrounging people having a lovely time on benefits :steam:  the effort it takes to get a measly £60 a week which doesn't even cover bills let alone food and clothing is ridiculous. i honestly believe that the majority of people would not be on benefit unless they absolutely had to. i don't know how anyone survives on it. perhaps if you've got 15 kids and you get a bit extra for them, maybe that works out, i dont know, but id rather be sweeping the streets than sitting here wondering how im going to pay my phone bill

    :grrr:

right, am off to calm down. i really must stop getting to het up about things, im sure its half the reason im ill sad
