Labile Blood Pressure

Posted , 6 users are following.

HBP all over the place.  High as 200/113.  Drops within minutes.  Makes me dizzy, SOB and my chest gets tight.  Taking Avapro 300mg, HCTZ 25mg, Atenolol 25mg and 81mg aspirin.

I get spikes that cause symptoms almost daily.

I've had a Nuclear Stress Test, a cath, CT Angiogram of Heart and Carotids and an Echo (EF 55%).

I'm very scared that I will have a stroke.

What else can I do?

That has happened to me and I got a few nasty retinal hemorrhages from that that left permanent vision loss in my right eye. Do you have any Vision symptoms from this blood pressure issue?

Anne, the medicine is beyond my immediate experience.  My mother had something like this, however, and I did get to observe her medications.  There are some other classes of drugs that can be added to the mix, that's what they did with her, and it kept her BP under control for years without a stroke.

?That is a rather low dosage of atenolol, I wonder if that's something to talk about first.

If you are in the UK ask your GP to refer you to a 'hypertension referral centre'. You can Google the phrase and find them. He will probably not have heard of them and they are usually part of a kidney unit at a major hospital. They understand BP better than cardiologists and can do a range of tests.

In my case they said that I am not truly hypertensive and just have peaks and that is why medications gave me more in the way of side effects and reduced it too much.
