Ben here, I wrote extensively earlier in the year, but to reiterate briefly, I had a dizzy spell that lasted more than 2 days. It made me nauseous and I vometed several times until I got some COLA SYRUP. I live in the states and cola syrup is available at most all pharmacies, ( we used to call them drug stores). It was very inexpensive and it WORKED IMMEDIATELY to stop the feeling of nauseua.
Later that week I made it to the doctor's office and at first they thought it was Ear rocks; small crystals of calcium carbonate called otoconia, which collect in the inner ear. If they fall out of place into the ear canal, they can cause vertigo. They did a couple of exercises; Hallpike maneuver, and The Dix–Hallpike or Nylen–Barany maneuver to try to put them back, but for me it did not work. After extensive diagnostics like; MRI and CAT SCAN W / CONTRAST, the ENT diagnosed me with Meniere's disease. I was sent home with a bottle of pills, but it did not help.
I went to my GP doctor and asked for a complete diagnosis with all the tests and data and he decided to get another opinion. This time I went to The University of Michigan Medical Center in AnnArbor Michigan where I was again tested in many additional ways and diagnosed with Vestibular Neuritis, which is inflamation of the Vestibular Nerve ( swelling of the nerve that dilivers balance information to my brain). I believe you folks in the UK call it by Labrinthitus, generally speaking.
Anti Vertigo medication does nothing for me and I have not had new physical therapy for the new diagnosis. My therapy starts December 2, 2014 and I will report what that therapy entails when I get done with the first session.
One other thing, the Univesrsity Doctors told me in aswer to my many questions that this is not going to go away quickly and that it was responsible for my double vision and subsequent difficulty reading and other high level brain functions, like quick thinking, orgainization speaking and typing.
So in short, for nausea take cola syrup. Although the ingredients are listed exactly the same on the bottle of syrup as it is on a bottle of Coke, I tried drinking Coca Cola both with the bubbles and after allowing it to go flat by shaking, but it did not work as well as the little 4 ounce bottle of syrup mixed 3 table spoons to about 3 ounces of water. Then take heart and try to be positive, the symptoms will subside largely at first, then slowly as time passes. Exercises will help, but expect it to take a very long time to overcome completely.
Being positive is critical to the mental part to keep from becoming depressed.
OK? Take care, try to work with it, look up the exercises on Al Gore's invent and try them. I'll be back.
Ben
