Labyrinthiris - inner ear virus

Posted , 3 users are following.

I had a full knee joint replacement 5 weeks ago today, my knee is improving all the time which is great.  But I haven’t felt that well in myself, last week I went to my doctors & they sent me to A & E as my heart rate was high & my oxygen level low. I spent 6 Days in hospital... all my blood tests came back clear as did my heart scan , chest scan.  Anyway I went back to my doctors today and have a viral inner ear . Which makes you feel so unwell ... it’s called labyrinthitis .  Just wanted to know if any one out there has had this & how long it lasts, I’ve been like this for 2weeks now.

    Hi there

I was diagnosed with viral labyrinthitis nearly 4 weeks ago but had it a while before that too. Not to discourage you but I’m still suffering. I’ve had the dizziness, nausea and tinnitus. I’m still getting some deep ear pain from time to time. The nausea has definitely eased but the dizziness I’m still struggling with and the tinnitus is quite bad. I’m waiting for an ENT referral.

I’m now taking Betahistine which has been helping a bit. I don’t feel my symptoms are as severe as they were but I still have times when I’m really off balance and feel rough. Did the doctor give you anything to take?

When I saw the GP again last week (as I’d not been improving) he told me not to push through but to try and rest and keep my head still. So make sure you do take time to rest and don’t push yourself too much too soon.

    Take care.
