Labyrinthitis,when should I push for a scan?

Hi,I have been diagnosed with Labrynthitis and have been suffering from the symptoms for at least five weeks now with no real let up.I had just started university and have had to accept defeat and take an intermit period,so will not be going back until February.i have found that my symptoms are bearable if I remain in my house and that they flair up with activity, such as hoovering or over exersion, which is a nightmare as I hate sitting about.I have also found that weather changes affect how "swimmy" my head is and that I always feel bad around dusk, but generally better into night time.I have been trying to get out for a walk after dark as I find the lack of light subdues the dizziness a bit, perhaps because there is less to draw the eye too and therefore I move my head less?.I am completely abstaining from caffine but not alcohol,in fact I find a couple of beers can level my head out of an evening and chill me out,so why not!. I have resigned myself to accepting this nightmare may continue for another couple of months but would like to know when I should push for a scan?,my doctor is very understanding of the condition and provided some prochlorperazine, but they only made me feel more nauseaus and little else so I stopped taking them, and havent been back since. My issue is that I an certain that I have had this before around this time of year and mistaken it for S.A.D,if this is the case then I want to have the scan to ensure there is nothing more permanent going on,please advise.

Hi, You need to ask your GP to refer you to neurology if you want a scan. Also the ENT team are the doctors who would be able to correctly diagnose your labyrinthitis and dizziness.

Five weeks is a long time.  Have you been to the hospital already or just the GP?

Hi,thank you all so much for your replies.Have just got back from the doctors, she reluctantly requested an appointment with ENT and prescribed me two new drugs,Amitriptyline for anxiety and Hydroxyzine for vertigo.I have noticed that I am reasonably in control at home, but if I go out and about I am immediatly  hit with anxiety that makes the symptoms 100 times worse,so am hoping the drugs may ease this.Otherwise, she just suggested I stay in and ride it out, yay!

Hi, I had anxiety with my vertigo.  Have you tried meditation? It helps to reduce anxiety and stress and has really helped me.   The meditation works as an accumulative effect, so you need to do it every day.  You can ask your GP for Mindfulness training on the NHS. Otherwise you can do a websearch for free guided meditations.  I have done this before and my mum and friend listen to the guided meditations.
