Lack of sleep

I started on 100mg of Sertraline and could not sleep. My doctor said to increase it to 200mg and take 2mg Diazipan as well. Still I did not sleep. If I take Zopiclone 7.5gm my wife tells me I'm jumping about in bed all night, this still only gave me about 3 hours continuous sleep so I stopped. I have been on Sertraline for 10 months with disturbed sleep. Now sleeping in separate beds. Been waiting 9 months for a phsycological assesment for stress related Bipolar. Any reasonable suggestion will be welcomed.

    Hi, I take 100mg been on it for 9 weeks had really bad side effects one being sleep, I took 3.5mg of Zopicione seemed to work but only take once or twice a week not every night

    I was informed by the pharmacist to take them in the morning so they don't disturb your sleep pattern. That was a high dose to start you on and increasing the dose and adding more meds is a bit rash I think. Try taking it at a different time of day if you don't already and discuss with a pharmacist they know more about the effectiveness and chemical elements of drugs etc, Good luck

      Thanks for your input Tezes. 100mg did seem high to start on to me, then adding another 100mg sems to double the problem. As lynn41911 stated you cannot take Zopiclone longterm as its addictive. Will definitly seek Pharmacists advice. GP's just want you out the door.

    What time of day do you take them? I take mine no later than 9am- even if I want to have a lie in and go back to sleep at weekends I have one by my bedside to take asap when I first wake, about 7-8am. This may help, if not tell doc and they may try to change your meds if it is a real problem - hope you feel better soon!

      Usually between 8.30-9.30am. Just booked appointment for Monday to reassess my meds. Until I have been diagnosed correctly the dosage of Sertraline may be totally wrong for me, bearing in mind I 've been on 200mg for nine months. Hoping to feel better soon to!

      You wouldn't be on Sertraline if your a manic..Zoplicone and Diaxapam Be

      Yet to be diagnosed I am told its Bipolar, stress related. GP visit tomoz hopefully some answers!!!x

      Don't worry about taking benzodiazepines with sertraline. I also take clonazepam and propronalol. GP will advise what is safe to take in combination. Good luck at Docs

    These pills are terrible. I dont ever want to take anti depressants again. I was on sertraline for 18 daysn stopped taking them over a week ago. Been having the worst week of my life from withdrawls. I felt suicidal i lostmy sexual appetite i lost my eemotions.  I lost feelings for my girlfriend which made me confused. I called off of work for the past 3 days. I was put on an anxiety pill which helps but u stil feek hopeless. I am hoping that i wilm go back t to the waay i was 2 weeks ago. I have had bad panic attacks ect. One thing i wll say is just dont stop taking them. Talk to ur doctor first. I just stopped and i have had the worst week of my life

      That sounds horrendous. What strength were you on? I went from 100mg to 200mg, reduced to 150mg over a week now just started on 100mg. Still not sleeping very good. Going to gp tomoz to check my meds. 10 months seems too long to be on them without a psychiatric diagnose.Hope you improve.

      Not sure 25 or 50. This reaction has been putting a damper on my relationship tho.

    i take my medication in the morning so my sleep isn't affecting my sleep at all, i'm on 150mg and have been for the past 6-8 weeks or so, i've been on sertraline in total for 10 months :-)

      Well that blows me out of the water by reducing it. It must be either ones metabolism, age (68) or reason for medication. Had a Zopiclone last night slept from 2.30 -8am so better than usual. Seeing doc pm.

      Doesn't affect my sleep either, take it 5pm. Mind only on 75mg, imagine they will increase my dose this review.Another set of side effects. Boh.

      It's a strange drug. It took the edge off my depression at 50mg. Not such a good month on 75mg. Can't multi task,memory sluggish. Blah. Blah. Early days suppose 3mths.???

      T doesn't have to be increased if your ok on 50. I've been taking 50 mgs for 18 months suits me fine.

      Thank you..  Suppose lower the dose less to come off. That's a positive thought.!!
