Ladies....citalopram & periods!

I have been on 10mg citalopram 5 weeks (it will be 6 tomorrow) yesterday and today i feel so dizzy, nauseas, low and my anxiety is through the roof - i have looked on my ovulation app and i am due on in 3 days. Could this be why? or is it a side effect of the medication and i need to up my dose? i was doing relatively well at the beginning of the week too 😦

its definitely your period and also it will settle and after some months it will not effect you anxiety that much anymore. I had horrible days before and during my period. now even after 16 weeks on citalopram still affects me but not as bad as it was at the beginning. for example I'm in my last says of period now and anxiety increased for some reason but might be just a blip.

Dont rush to up your dose if youve started to feel improvements already! I made that mistake and it didnt help and made me feel drugged. I ended up coming back down. A)the fluctuation in mood/symptoms is still very normal this early on the journey.

B)cycle can make symptoms worse for some people. It seems like it was worse for me early on and only occasionally bad now. However, my cousin still has a rough time around her period and shes been on them for years. I think cycles can play a big part in our mood and on the meds its more amplified

I think it was about 6-8 weeks before I increased. If you have felt great, give your dose more time. I am sorry I increased. I still get bad days after almost a year, but its usually only a day and not days or weeks. You start to learn to cope better, too, the longer youre on it. If you find yourself like this for weeks with no improvement, maybe then talk to your dr. Otherwise, try to give it time.

Im in the same boat atm just finished week 4 on 20mg, I get very very low and suicidal and hopeless and cant stop crying no energy and no appetite cant do anything almost feel paralysed and like I'm floating, crying becuase all I want is my life back, which seems to get worse when I'm due on/once I've came on aswell, I'm struggling severe depression and severe anxiety, I was on 10mg for 3 weeks first, I'm not having a good time at all, have a 2 year old and partner so constantly worried its affecting them, am off work and have been for a month now, I generally feel abit better in afternoon, I had a solid 2 - 3 good weeks of no anxiety or depsession which I thought omg I'm better... then bang came crashing down last thursday 😭 I'm at the point where I cant do things to make myself better either so waiting for the meds to lift me up abit so I can make steps to feel better 😞
