Lansoprazole Side Effects??

I’ve recently been put on Lansoprazole (30g) by my doctor due to constant non-stop deep burping and a uncomfortable feeling in my stomach, which only a large amount of Rennies will decrease every day.
The doctor has not done any tests and has put me straight on these meds, one a day in the morning, four days ago.
My stomach feels uncomfortably tight and my burping has increased (even when I do take the Rennies) so much so that I feel like I could be sick sometimes on how much burping I have.
Anyone else had these side effects? If so, did it stop after a certain amount of time?
I know I’ve only started taking these so don’t want to throw this away if this is a normal occurrence.
(I am posting this on this discussion board as personally I believe I have a stomach ulcer but they won't test me until they try me on these tablets first....

I have had the same problem as well it will take some time to decrease. If it gets to the point where it doesn't stop then I recommend you ask your doctor if you can get an endoscopy or refer you to a gastrointestinal specialist if this continues. I have had digestive issues since college and lately it has been ongoing to where I felt sick so I went to get tested and the doctor gave me three types of medication well two antibiotics and one to reduce the acid in my stomach. Try taking probiotics it will reduce the gas and help support your digestive system.
But the belching will take some time to go away since my doctor told me it will take at least 3-6 months for me to not have those symptoms as much.
Well I wish you good luck and speedy recovery

One thing to be aware of is that taking Lansoprazole for a long period of time will affect absorption of Vitamin B12 from your food which needs a high level of acid to carry it down to the Ileum and into the blood stream.
Symptoms of B12 deficiency tend to develop slowly and may not be recognised immediately. As the condition worsens, common symptoms include:
Weakness and fatigue
Light-headedness and dizziness
Palpitations and rapid heartbeat
Shortness of breath
A sore tongue that has a red, beefy appearance
Nausea or poor appetite
Weight loss
Diarrhoea
Yellowish tinge to the skin and eyes
If low levels of B12 remain for a long time, the condition also can lead to irreversible damage to nerve cells, which can cause the following symptoms:
Numbness and tingling in the hands and feet
Difficulty walking
Muscle weakness
Irritability
Memory loss
Dementia
Depression
PsychosisI am not a medically trained person but having had gastric surgery for a perforated ulcer 59 years ago I've had Pernicious Anaemia (a form of B12 deficiency) for more than 45 years.
I wish you well

I couldn't handle Lansoprazole. My body totally rejected them after a week and I got a super sore chest. Had to come off them but I hated the idea of being on them anyway (seems counter intuitive to me to cut stomach acid when we need it so much). My body made the decision for me, by nearly burning a hole through my chest in the supermarket one afternoon. After that, and struggling with a strange growly stomach, I gave up.
I've reduced my own GERD-related burping with diaphragm breathing exercises and diet change. Not perfect but it has helped a lot. A hiatus hernia often causes burping. So too can overgrowth of bacteria in the gut, bad diet or pressure, food intolerances or other combinations.
You could ask for a camera down to get a better idea of what is causing your uncomfortable symptoms? The only way I found out mine was via camera. It can take weeks or months but is worth it for your own peace of mind and action plan.
Good luck. In the meantime maybe try some deep or diaphragm (aka belly) breathing? Most of us are apparently breathing all wrong.
You can find such vids on YouTube. Any that say "pull your abs in tight", don't. Just breathe in and out gently.
