Laparoscopic hernia surgery after open surgery on oposite side

Hi!

I had an open inguinal hernia surgery at age 10 (on right side).

Today, I'm 47 year male with inguinal hernia on opposite, left side.

On initial examination with my surgeon, i had a wish for laparoscopic surgery but the doctor said to me that this will be difficult to perform because of previous right inguinal hernia surgery. Something like, because this previous surgery there is some "glued" tissue on right side that will make laparoscopic surgery much harder to perform. And he suggests na open inguinal surgery...

Is this really true? Because, i had to be on my foot (or job) pretty soon after surgery and I thought that with laparoscopic surgery this will be possible.
