laparoscopic hysterectomy Day 19

I had a total hysterectomy. I was feeling okay not much pain, at day 4 ibprofin and a heading pad was all I needed and rest. Then last Thursday it started to feel like I could not empty my bladder and had that feeling that I had to pee every 2 minutes. It was a UTI my Doctor gave me macrobid 2xs a day for 7 days. I

didnt have any horrible side effects with it just the usual nausea i get with all antibotics which she prescribed Zofran to help with. Its clearing it up.

Except ive noticed the last couple days my stomach has been hurting like I've done to many sit-ups.

I have been cleaning the house and grocery shopping and laundry. Im off work for another 2 weeks and my husband went back to work and books and tv and resting are getting to me. I dont know if its the macrobid or all the stuff ive been doing or I read at about 2 weeks your inside sticked start to dissolve and that may cause some pain? I went for a check up and she said everything was healing fine. I dont want to call for something that is normal since ill have a check-up before going back to work.

everything I’ve read and everything I’ve been told by other people it’s just everybody heals differently but I don’t know if it’s the Macrobid or if it’s just my doing too much physical stuff. has anyone else had this problem with the antibiotics or doing too much after your hysterectomy? I really should’ve asked her more questions when I was there. She told me I could even start doing yoga and working out again just no weights for the first 6 weeks and then start slow and my body will let me know if its too much. Which it didnt since 2 days after i did a bunch of physical stuff now im hurting again. She said 3weeks max and i should have little pain. Im back on the ibprofin and heating pad. Im so frustated with this.

Sorry you are experiencing this, sorry also to say you have been doing way too much, your insides have been poked prodded and bruised and they need time to heal, you shouldn't be doing any more than light housework which means light dusting and that's it, I hope you are not carrying heavy shopping? nothing heavier than a kettle of water for 6 weeks, seriously you need to stick to that. As regards to the UTI, sadly this is a known side effect of having a hysterectomy, a lot of woman go through this, myself included have suffered recurrent uti's since my hysterectomy 6 years ago, not saying that this will happen to you just that it can happen.

    Hi

You're doing far too much. Shopping, heavy housework and laundry is all putting stress and strain on your insides. No wonder you are hurting.

I feel your frustration its totally boring relaxing when you're used to being busy but you need to turn a blind eye to cleaning and laundry or you are going to set yourself back and end up taking longer to heal.

I would be a bit concerned that you've been told you can do Yoga this early in your recovery.

Try and get some help at least for the next couple of weeks.

sorry to sound like a parrot but you really, really are doing WAY too much! My consultant told me I was fine to resume exercise at 6wks...my gynae physio wouldnt even see me until 12wks post op and was really annoyed at the advice I'd been given. She specialises in womens health and sees so many issues with pelvic prolapse and organs attaching to scar tissue during healing that she was really very specific and firm with her advice. I started exercise with a PT who did post natal care and she was fab at building up strength without putting pressure on wound area. Both ladies also told me to gently manipulate and massage the scar area to help prevent it becoming hard and lumpy and also prevent anything attaching to it. I followed their advice which was hard as I was a runner and led a very physical lifestyle. 0ne year on and my body is stronger and fitter than ever. Plenty of walking and very light chores is enough for you and just be cautious which type of class you take as yoga can strain a weakened core and maybe put undue pressure on an area that really needs months to heal internally. Wishing you all the best with your recovery! debbie

Ive had laparoscopy surgery before for endometriosis and I remember recovering fairly quickly, but I was also 39 at the time and not 48. From the sounds of it, I guess I started to fast to soon. I was hoping since most of the swelling has gone down I could just resume as normal.

I guess I will take it easier for the next couple weeks.Thank you all for the advice.
