Laparoscopic mesh rectopexy prep

Posted , 7 users are following.

Hi all,

I am due to have a laparoscopic mesh rectopexy in the next few weeks to repair intussusception and a rectocele.

I am wondering if people who have had this surgery know what I should expect in terms of recovery as I am n trying to get things as prepared as possible beforehand . I need to know things I can and can't do on my own etc as I don't have family and so will need to hire help if it is a case where I wont be able to manage alone.

Any help anyone can offer will be great.

Thanks

Rachael

if you ha e small children or older children that you have to drop off to school then hire help! The first week you will need alot of help, but if its just you then hire help for the first two weeks. After the first week then you determine if you need help for the second week. Everyones body heals differently.

      Thanks for your reply,

It's just me, no kids or partner. What will I need help with just so I have a rough idea as to the level of how out of action i will be initially.

I have 2 indoor house cats will I need to get help to take care of those?

I'm just make sure everything is organised beforehand so I'm not stuck after the op unable to manage.

      Thank you,

DO NOT LET THEM USE MESH, please.

I have a grade 4 rectocele and intussusception, I can't get this repaired without mesh. Most of the problems with mesh are with vaginal repairs as the skin is just too thin and can cause erosion. I really just want info on things to help me out after surgery but thanks for your comment.

    HI,

The things i did that helped me was put things up higher so i didnt have to bend or stoop. I also fixed things like laundry detergent where they were half so it woukdnt be heavy to lift.

Brought supplies like pads, laxatives, stool softer. Prepare some meals that would freeze well.

Your cat care you probably would want help with that since it requires stooping.

I had some help for about 6 weeks. Not alot of help thou. Had someone walk my dog, and house cleaning.

Good luck with surgery. Its really 12 weeks or longer. After 6 weeks you do feel better but still swollen. Just be careful with lifting when you start feeling better.

    Good luck with surgery,

    GRACE

I agree with Grace, the best advice would be to make sure all your everyday items are out of cupboards and left on worktops.Bending and stretching is a big no-no! Movicol if you need it, pads and comfortable knickers...Good luck! xx

Ask your doctor can he use your skin tissue instead of the mesh

Hi Latisha as I previously said i have a grade 4 rectocele and intussusception which can only be repaired with mesh. There is no way they could repair this with my own tissue. If it was possible of course I would do that but the damage is too extensive. I'm asking here purely for advice on post surgery recovery info not for peoples opinions on the surgery itself.

      Thanks

mesh us definitely not a good idea inside the body. I'm sure kadues on here are only trying to help as they have had exp they wouldn't want any other lady to experience.

I'd really think against this stuff.
