Laparotomy Tomorrow to remove 22cm cyst...Any Advice?

Posted , 10 users are following.

Hi ladies! After eleven weeks of waiting and going through the processes, I have finally got my date for my surgery! It was a bit of a shocker and short notice as I got a call today asking if I was free tomorrow! Fortunately, my boss is very understanding and was very supportive in me going off like this. So I accepted the appointment and I go in tomorrow at 7:30am....

I am can't tell you how nervous I am!!! I have never had any kind of surgery before so I don't even know what to expect!! I've been in today for bloods and a couple of forms (no consent form yet though) Does anyone have any tips? Tonight I am mostly packing my bag and getting things organised, trying not to get myself in too much of a tiff and praying that you lovely ladies that are still waiting get your dates soon!

Any advice is greatly welcomed from a very freaked out lady!

Can't wait for this time tomorrow when I am in recovery and finally rid of this horrid cyst!

xx

      Hi Beccy

Am so pleased you are finally rid of your cyst smile Don't worry about the appetite thing it will return in a few days in the meantime just try and eat as much as you can (some hospital food is not that bad!!) smile

Think it is fab you have a picture of the offending cyst smile I must remember to ask if they took any photos of mine when it was removed smile

A tip from me during recovery.....don't do too much when you feel good.......your body lulls you into a false sense of security.....do little bits for short periods of time and rest well.

I really am so pleased you can now start the recovery process and start to feel better.

Sending you lots of positive recovery thoughts and good wishes. smile

      Julie smile xx

Yes it hasn't been TOO awful. My family have been bringing me in lots of treats and keeping me occupied with visits. It was really nice as some of the ladies on the ward haven't even have visitors sad

i should be be going home today which is good, although there has been blunder after blunder with paperwork and at the moment, I am not even sure if I have an ovary or not.... The surgeon told me that there was no saving it but the notes say it was preserved. So confusing. They also wrote me down as married and put my discharge date as may 9th! Not very impressed to be honest. My ovary is a key point of information!

I asked if I could see it when it had come out and the surgeon offered to then take a picture so I am not sure if it is standard. It's quite cool though I think. If a little gross.... Haha

i am going to follow that tip! Thank you, I will be staying with the mother in law until I am feeling a bit better and I can get around.

how are you feeling Julie? So leased you are on the mend. Xxx

Hi Beccy, glad to hear you are sounding so well.

Seriously what is going on with the paperwork. What have they removed and not removed?..........surely that is a core question and a pretty key reason as to why you are in the hospital.

Hope you manage to get home soon.

I have been scheduled my op, but after being on the phone constantly to the secretary and admissions, I asked to speak to someone urgently and after a long conversation one of them actually said they didn't realise I was having an operation. To me that was the whole point of the constant phoning.

Anyway sounds like you need to get out soon and get ready to recover. Glad you have someone looking after you, I think you will need it.

I have moved this weekend and I am slightly worried about being on my own after the op, but have been told that I should be o.k.

Hope they sort everything out soon, in the mean time glad you are o.k. and that the pain you have is only temporary. Hope you get to go home soon x x x

Absolutely! I actually got really irate about it today. I think since my op I have just been too dosed up to really think too much about anything but recovery. I called PALS again and left a message saying I would like to make a complaint. All they said was you will need to ask your surgeon at your 12 week check up, but of course he won't remember, he will look at the notes before he sees me. I'm livid.

What happened with your urgent call? What was the problem? Sorry if I missed anything, I'm still not fully with it! Lol was that before you got your op date? So pleased it is coming up for you now too! Not long!

I am am being extremely well looked after here, I am waited on hand and foot no matter how much I protest. It actually makes me feel quite emotional how much they are doing for me. I am going to make sure I buy a big bunch of flowers and write them a lovely thank you letter. I honestly don't know how to thank them!

you will be ok but really, for the first few days try not to do too much. I walked about quite a bit on Monday and I was in lots of pain in the evening. Also, don't try and cut down your pain killers lol that also set me off in agony. Haha I am taking five every four hours (x 2 tramadol, a dicolfenic and x 2 paracetamol) I was concened about how much I was putting into my body so tried taking out tramadol at first and then the next night the paracetamol. Believe me you need all of them. I feel ok when I am taking them, but got to stick to that.

how did the move go? Are you all settled in? Ours is going to be end of the month, your royal highness over here is going to be sitting dictating since I can't lift anything more than a three pint full kettle! Lol that's going to be interesting! Haha x

I am ok. Every few days something seems to set me back though as I have perhaps pushed it too far. I stretched in bed a few days ago whilst I was half asleep (one of those full body stretches, out through the toes!) and I really bloody hurt myself! It's been soon sore ever since. I am still at my mother in laws, (she won't let me go home! Haha) but getting a little better each day. Must remember to behave and not push it too much!

How are you feeling? You mentioned menopausal symptoms? How is your cut doing? Hope you are ok! Xx

Just seen all the previos replies after I wrote....So glad your doing well....they said my incision will be from my pelvic bone to above my belly button......big....I also was told I have to give myself needles in my stomach for 28 days after so i dont get a blood clot....anyone else have to do this....

      Hi,

my incision was that large. I am three weeks post op now.

i had a couple of injections in my leg to stop clots and had the lovely pressure stockings in hospital.

i was in Hospital for 3 days.

i haven't heard of anyone having to inject themselves 28 days after.

but maybe for some reason you have increased chance of a clot developing.

      good luck on the 22nd!

Thank you! Don't know why I need so many ejections...my first surgery ever and I'm 52...... I was wondering how much weight did you loose and was there a big difference in belly size?

I'm 51, I haven't really weighed myself, but I must have lost at least 9lbs as the cyst weighed about that.

my tummy has been a bit swollen, but gone down quite a lot now, and much flatter! It is so great not to see that awful huge belly I had!

Hi Suki8 that is good news. My cyst turned out to be a fibroid the size of a football. My stomach has gotten huge, I cannot wait to have it removed in a few months time. They have to shrink it first, which by all accounts takes a while.

The keyhole they did to remove the cyst, (obviously they couldn't do as it was not a cyst) has left my belly button a little weird. Kind of freaks me out as it does not look so much like my belly button now. Completely irrelevant I know, it is not bad but just doesn't look like mine.

I am struggling here as I still have to put up with all the symptoms I had before and worse now as the hormonal implants they are injecting into my stomach cause a temporary menopause. I've just turned 34! I am still having to eat liquized food due to the pain and pressure in my stomach and abdomin.

I am so looking forward to having surgery now, was actuaally disappointed to wake up from the last lot of surgery to find they could not do anything.

I really look pregnant now and the weight is just dropping off, that would be fab if I was trying to diet.

I am glad you guys are feeling well, that is good news, gives me something to look forward to. Desperately want to get everything over with, feeling pretty rough now sad  Has anyone heard from Beccy, I hope she is o.k. x x x
