I had a replacement hip operation 6 months ago,and I still get pain in the leg,I have a large dent in my leg where the hip has been replaced and a large lump below it as if my muscle has slipped.I have just started with a chiroptactor for help in trying to walk correctly,I have been on a stick since the op I dont feel confident without it yet,has anyone else in the groupl had this problem or some thing similar, the dent and the lump below it?

    Hi brenda

Welcome to the forum.. I know what you are saying. yes I have a dent where my scar is and below that is still swollen 5 months after my op. It can take up to a year or more to fully heal. If you are in pain I sugeast that you either go to A & E or you phone your surgeons secretary and explain. I am sure they won't mind. You shouldn't be in pain that is still affecting your life. I get the odd niggle in my left side. But I am putting this down to the fact that I am srill healing and it is nothing I can't copee with. You seem  to be in too much pain for it to be normal so I suggest you get that checked out. Even an x ray will tell them if everything is normal.

thanks hailea for getting back to me,you have put my mind at rest on the dent and muscle lump,I had an xray after 3 months and everything was ok according to the surgeons assistant.I am not in pain 24/7 but at least 5 or 6 times a week, where I have to take strong pain killers,I thought I would be a lot better by now.

    Hi Brenda,

I agree with Hailea's response.  It is not unusual that you are still not confident walking without any support - Good thinking to have a chiropractor adjust even though sometimes the muscles might be strectched -

It takes time, sooooooooooooo much time - be gentle with your self - you are doing great -

    warm hug

    Hi Brenda!

I just had my 6 month check up and asked the doctor about the same thing. He said it's due to the fat being redistributed somewhat like liposuction. He wasn't concerned about it at all.

I still get a few aches, pinching and an overall feeling that my hip will fall out (LOL). I still can't walk down steps normally. Still one step at a time. I still use my cane when I'm out.

Continued good luck in your recovery!

thankyou for your reply I didnt get a 6 month check up but your symptoms are the same as mine. I have just gone to a chiropractor and she says the dint is where they smoothed the skin down and the bunch of muscles below it are knotted because my new hip has made my leg  1inch longer.
