large hiatus hernia

Hi, could anybody please help me. I have been ill for a long time, and have just been diagnosed with HH 40cm, I have been told that this is large, and wonder if anybody else has had one as big as this. I am having severe chest pain, & stabbing pains under my right rib cage, which radiate right through to my back, but I have no reflux at all, only burping. I am not sleeping very well, as I just cannot get comfortable, and am feeling exhausted all the time. My GP has referred me to a surgeon for possible surgery.

The pain was so severe last week I had to go to A & E, where they tested my heart but all was ok there, and they sent me home.

I would be very grateful for any help you can offer.

Many thanks. sad :?

    Hi there

Just read your letter about your large hiatus hernia. I suffered for years with heartburn ,reflux ,discomfort after eating feeling of lump in throat. Had to sleep sitting up. Had the tests was told I had hiatus hernia but they could not operate. I was sent home doomed to a restricted quality of life and a miserable one. I did not give up and found a brilliant surgeon in Dublin A Mr Paddy Broe best in his field in keyhole surgery. He operated and my new life began four weeks later on recovery. I am a new woman no complications sleeep like a baby locec and gaviscon a thing of the past .I was fifty two when I had the keyhole surgery called nissan fundaplication Query spelling,I am now sixty eight retired from nursing at 60. Have your surgery . Dr Broe is attached to Beaumont Hospital Dublin and is best in his field in Europe.

Good luck and get well soon

i have reflux and a hh i have had them for 7 years now i was admited to hospital last year through the pain i had suffered that got to bad i was sick every night and the pain was unreal the lump in my through i thought might be cancer, When in hospital i was put on a drip and given medication and morphine for the pain (yes it really was that bad) i was pregnant with my son at the time and doctors concidered delivering him at 27 weeks if i did not respond to treatment (luckley though i did) i now take medication twice a day for the conditions i have and have been told i can have the operation but there's a 60% chance of sucess and if it fails i will need another then maybe another and so on i chose to stay on the meds till a time that no meds actually work then revisit the idea of surgery it is your decision but me personaly would not as it is now under control
