large ovarian cyst

Hi,

I went to see a consultant today regarding a cyst on my right ovary... she told me that the scan I had done about 4 weeks ago measured it at 11x 11x 9 cm and on examining me again thinks its grown another 3 cm! I am really conserned as to how big the cyst will be in a few months when I go to have surgery to have it removed, I will look very bloated and the symtoms of a constant dull aching, frequent urination and constipation may get worse,as well as the lower back pain I have on and off. They also said the size of the cyst may have destroyed my ovary and that i may loose it. As a 30 year old, who is undecided whether to have any more children, I am really quite worried. I was also sent for a blood test to check for signs of a more worrying diagnosis.

Does anyone else know anything about cyts this size or had the same problem?

I would be greatful to hear from anyone.

Years ago I had a cyst the size of a football, weighing over 15 lb. My ovary and fallopian tube were also removed. I had 2 children after the operation, a boy and a girl, both full term normal deliveries.

I am now 19, and a year ago this week, i had probably the largest operation i will ever have in my life...an ovarian cyst was removed and it was 30cm in sice, they believe it had been growing for over a year and a half. it weighed two stone and had 12 litre of fluid extracted from it. i too had to have tests for cancer, and it was the scariest moment of my life waiting for those results. they removed my ovary and fallopian tube, and they also believe my other fallopian tube is blocked and therefore my chances of conceiving are minimal, however as long as the small cyst i have at the moment growns any bigger i may be able to try IVF. your not alone. mine was also on my right hand side

Really do not want to scare any of you - but my daughter had a very large cyst which resulted in removal of ovary and fallopian tube at 21 . This was after a YEAR of being treated like a hypochondriac !

She then had to have her remaining ovary removed at 23 - this time it had twisted. once again missed by Doctors until it became an emergency.

She now regrets not having any eggs frozen - although she had it in mind to ask about it before the 2nd operation ! So PLEASE don't be fobbed off or leave it too late.

She now faces a life on HRT and insensitive remarks like \"why didn't they remove your uterus - its no good to you\" and THAT was from a DOCTOR and a similar comment from a practice nurse.

    So be persistent :!:

    HI,

I dont wan to make any one scared but just filling you in on a story!

my sister had an ovarian cyst that was the size of a babies head on her right ovary. She went to doctors for over 6 months with severe hot flushes pain in her pelvic region, headaches, back pain and heavy periods. The doctors thought she was a complete hypocondriact. One da whilst at work she thought she had period pain and was walking to the chemst for some panadol. On the way there she was really hot and getting severe hot flushes and lightheadedness. She walked into the chemist jumped behind the counter and took all her clothes off, to her underwear with the severity of the heat. An ambulance was called and she was rushed into emergency. (her temperature wasnt raised on the thermometre) They found out that her cyst was strangulated around her ovary and a smaller (but still large syst) had ruptured. She had to get her ovary removed on the spot and was in hospital for 2 weeks. She was only 23 at the time. she went through IVF and that didt work she wanted to have a child asap in case one day her other ovary had to be removed. by 25 she was pregnant and gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. :D. she then had another cyst the size of a tennis ball on the left ovary and again went back to have that cyst removed. she thought that would be her last child...and then at age 27 she fell pregnat again with another child naturally. Its really importnantto avoid this emergency situations by getting in quickly to doctors and pushing. you know your body. I myself now have a 7cm cyst which is growing which I will be getting removed next week.
