Large Ovarian Cyst - Need advice on how to treat

About three weeks ago I had sudden severe abdominal pain. The following day I went to the doctor, my abdomen was sensitive when we touched it. He sent me to get a CT scan.

CT scan showed :

A large mass on my ovary

Kidneys were retaining fluid

I had some kidney stones

The mass was the most urgent issue. I went to see my OBGYN. They did a transvaginal ultrasound and ran a CA 125 test on my blood. The ultrasound showed I had a large cyst on my left ovary. 10cm. It looked like it was filled with fluid, which they said was a good sign, The following day my CA125 test came back elevated at 78.

I was sent to a GYN Oncologist. That appointment was yesterday.

The doctor did a pelvic exam and said the cyst was mobile, which was a good sign because cancer masses are more solid and don't move around easily.

She scheduled me for Laparoscopic surgery to remove the ovary,

Up until there I'm good. I understood that they cyst has taken over the ovary and having the ovary removed would be best. I'm 45, have children and don't plan to have anymore children.

The CT scan and ultrasound showed that my uterus was fine, as well as my other ovary. No fluid in the uterus which would have been a cause for concern.

So here's my problem. The doctor wants to perform a full hysterectomy. She wants to remove my uterus and cervix as well as the left ovary and fallopian tube. She will leave the right ovary so I don't go into menopause.

At first I understood she would remove the uterus only if the cyst was cancer, but she wants to remove it anyway. It seems pretty invasive to remove my uterus and cervix if my cyst is benign.

What are your thoughts about this? Did you have a full hysterectomy due to a cyst?
