Large Ovarian Cyst waiting time?

Posted , 24 users are following.

I went to the gym in October and thought I pulled a muscle in my stomach, but it was really painful so ended up going to the doctors. They referred me for a scan and I ended up being referred to a consultant. I have been diagnosed as have an Ovarian cyst 10 x 10 x 8cm. My stomach is huge and I have been on painkillers for 7 months now. I was not expecting that news from the scan as it was explained as a small cyst, which may need keyhole surgery. Very shocked to find out it was that big and I may need to be cut open and possibly have an ovary removed too. I have a 12 - 16 week wait and am feeling pretty nauseous with constant bad back pain (my job involves standing up most of the day) which I am struggling with. My stomach is getting huge and I am a petite person. I am not sure I can manage 16 weeks wait, I will also have to postpone the op if that is the case due to circumstances, cannot believe the timing of it all. I have been told to go to A&E immediately if in pain as my ovary may twist. I cannot sleep as it is so uncomfortable I am having to turn every 15 minutes or so and am constantly tearful, which I cannot control. I am now eating little and often, getting indigestion and also pain in my hip too, just a few of many symptoms I am experiencing. Does anyone have any experiences of the waiting time they had? Or experiences of laparotomy or laparoscopy to share? Maybe just to put my mind at rest.

Hi Bek, thanks for your quick response.  Sounds like you are doing better.  What an ordeal you went through.  My case is a little different but I was able to relate to many of the things you and the others posted.  I know I am quite a bit older then most of you.  Last June it showed up that I had cervical cancer as well as cysts on each ovary.  The right is 8 cm by 8 cm and the left is approximately 5 x 5 cm.  I went through the cancer treatments which ended in November.  I assumed I would start feeling better but I didn't realize how much the cysts would affect me especially the right one.  I feel tired all the time, my back hurts and the pressure from the cysts as well as the cancer treatments make it very difficult to stand very long or get anything done.  I have been going to the chiropractor because I thought my back was out but x-rays shows that is not.  I can't eat very much at a time otherwise I get indigestion.  Of course I could stand to lose a few pounds but I don't enjoy eating much.  I have been through 2 CAT scans, 2 PET scan, 1 MRI, ultrasounds & x-rays.  All have confirmed the same results.  It has been so frustrating because I won't be

able to have my surgery until April 7th.  It has taken so much out of me to realize that that these are all symptoms of what I have going on with me.  Of course my doctors didn't tell me this but after reading yours and the others post I was able to realize that it is all related.  I've been waiting since December to find out that I have 2 more

months.  Sounds like my recovery will take at least 6 weeks.  Lord give me patience.  So glad I found your post.

    Thanks!

Hi Alice, you sound like you have had a really difficult time with it all. To have treatment for cancer as well as everything else going on and I guess lots of additional meds (Painkillers etc). Your body has been through so much, keep fighting until you get a proper answer and explanation.

I wish I had been given more information and felt well enough to be stronger and put my foot down. It's pretty tough when you are feeling so ill. Can you be added onto a cancellation list (I asked to be put on one, although ended up going into my first surgery early due to A&E trip).

I'm not going to lie, I. Still get back ache now but nowhere near the scale of before. Keep putting your foot down, have you got lots of support?

Keep going, after everything it will be better. Is your GP able to support you with a letter?

Stay strong, you sound like you really have been so far x x

I AM not from UK. BUT i am relieved to find this gem of a forum. Everything you have described in terms of symptoms, your fears, and hopes, relieves me in the slightest. Im 32 and ive just been told i have a 6.2cm X 5.6cm cyst on my lrft ovary. I am very scared. I also have a trip to UK booked in 3 weeks. Which I may have to cancel. IM so alone and nervous about all this. Is this forum still active?

Hi Bek and everyone. I am not sure if this thread is still active but I have been reading all the posts and they have been really reassuring so thank you for posting - I hope you are all well!

A few months back I was diagnosed with a 20cm ovarian cyst - my GP initally thought I was heavily pregnant! I am now due to have surgery in a few weeks, which will be three months after I was diagnosed, so who knows how large it will be by then!

I was wondering if anyone could give me any info about surgery? I don't feel like I know what to expect! My consultant has told me they 'intend' to do key hole, and strongly suggested I will lose the ovary. How long did it take you to recover from surgery? I am meant to be going to India with my boyfriend 6 and a half weeks after surgery (we have been saving forever). I told my consultant, who said it should be fine if there are no complications, but she was quite vague. Any insight would be really appreciated!

I am also hoping that post surgery I'll have the chance to discuss with the doctors/my GP if this is likely to happen. I an 22 so to be down to one ovary feels a bit scary.

    Thanks!

      Oh meant to say:

I am also hoping that post surgery I'll have the chance to discuss with the doctors/my GP if this is likely to happen again, with another cyst on the remaining ovary. I an 22 so to be down to one ovary feels a bit scary.
