Large umbilical hernia repair - potential complications?

Posted , 1 user is following.

I had a fairly large umbilical hernia repair (laparoscopic) just under 9 weeks ago and the last several weeks I have noticed a lump at the site. It does not feel like it did before the repair (not protruding as much and no horrible pressure) but it's fairly firm and does get a little tender e.g after activities or sitting at work) and I'm obviously concerned as I thought things might be getting better by now. I'm sure I should get this checked out with my doctor as I am quite nervous about it being a mesh failure / migration; which I have read is more common in larger laparoscopic repairs. Does anyone have specific experience with lumps / swelling after surgery? Is it normal this far along? I'm dreading having my life wrecked by this thing again!
