Hi

Ive been taking sertraline for two and a half years 100mg. i started tapering off in january this year. This drug has helped me so much but the amount of weight ive put on is ridiculous. Has anyone else had this is and did your weight go back to normal once you were off the drug ??

Thanks Kate

HI hope you dont mind me asking you about your jouney on sertraline, im going though a bad time at the moment

have been of work for about 6 wks,

i v tried hard to overcome the way i m feeling went to O.H. tuesday & the ocupational health nurse said i realy need meds to help

me. My gp as given me 24 diazapam 2mg told me to take them when i felt the need to.

I v got to go back to gp a wk today im very reluctant to take these diazapam 2mg, he did mension about long turn meds sertraline. i am scared as i will not even take a paracetamol unless iv got to, very anti drug.

I dont want to get hooked on any drug but feel i need some thing just to help me over this period in my life.

I was thinking of trying 25mg sertraline, do you think this may help, dont want to take larger amount as iv read it can give you

a lot of side affect after reading these forams. I DO FEEL VERY ANXIOUS but a bit concerned about going back to work, & going on holiday to tenerife on 10 may worried about side affects while on hols, also there are a few of us going & i do want to

enjoj myself if i possibly can iv read you cannot drink alcohol with this medication.

Hope you can help, youve said you are slowly weening of them is this because you are feeling a lot better.

sorry this is no help to your question about weight loss.

ps: Have read alot of people are on 25mg & this does help them.

      Hi

Its a fantastic antidepressant, its helped me numerous times, through postnatal depression , health anxiety and the death of my son.

I think starting on 25mg would be best if youre anti tablets. Then slowly increase to 50 mg. Then its increases if you or Gp think its necessary.

From my own experience I think taking your time is key. By six weeks i was starting to feel human again after horrific side effects , by 12 weeks i was thankful id stuck it out because i was feeling like my old self again.

I have the occasional drink now but i didnt at first because it caused increased anxiety for me.

I wanted to come off the drug after 12 months because i was feeling so well but then we lost our youngest son and it just wasnt the right time.

For me it was very hard at the beginning but that was worth it because of how well i started to feel once the side effects passed.

      I hope this has helped.

Yup.. gained about a stone and a half since starting sertraline two years ago. Trying to lose some now and finding a combination of three dog walks a day and calorie counting (the My Fitness Pal app is great) are helping - same as with any weight loss I guess.

GP says it shouldn't cause weight gain, but in my case it definitely has - mainly through increased appetite. Shame we have to choose between being slim and happy!

ive started the calorie counting too. I loved food before but i find I crave more food in the evenings now and in the last six months the weight is just piling on.

Hopefully exercising and calorie counting will help me too.
