laryngopharyngeal reflux - silent reflux

Hello, I really hope some people can give me their symptoms with this, I have had constant phelm in throat for too many months now, had occassional sore throats but no flu or cold symptoms, I get the lump in throat sensation now and then, I have been burping a lot, and sometime feel like I have to force a burpe to feel slightly better, some burning in somach, burning upper back, gas in stomach, grumbling and gurgling sounds, chest burning again only on occassions, constant swollowing, can eat fine, but have days of feeling full after a few bites of food and eating anymore would most likely throw it up, I do have a lot of loose stools as well but I do have ulcerative colitis for 10 years so could be that, any help would be great, if anyone else suffers these symptoms x

      Dee,

i have pain there, but it was pointed out to me that since I'm stressed I'm pulling my shoulders up toward ears.  Since I've focused on less stress and pulling shoulders downward, using Lat muscles, my pains are subsiding.  See if you might be tensing up.

Hi have had a lot of anxierty, and have been breathing a lot with my chest muscles, and actually watched my self breathing and noticed i was really over doing when taking deep breathes lifting shoulders high, so you could have a point there x

Hi , Ive just had all my test results back from camera , manometry and 24 hour PH tests showing all my symptoms which are identical to yours ( not colitis) are all due to acid coming up ... I asked about the phlem and the consultant said it is neutralised acid from my stomach coming up ... Ive decided to go with Fundiplication as he said in time it may effect my lungs and throat which is more problems I dont want if can be avoided ... Ive had all these symptoms since i was a child (45 now) so I think its time to knock it on the head with surgery ... good luck with everyting ... Margaret ..

A paper published last Tuesday, in the Spanish medical journal, Gastroenterologia y Hepatologia, entitled "A comparison of medical versus surgical treatment in Barrett's esophagus acid control" concluded, "Treatment results were significantly worse with medical treatment than with anti-reflux surgery". ie, fundoplication is better at controlling reflux than drugs. (As if we needed telling.)

A link to the paper can be found on the BarrettsWessex org uk website under the News/research tab.

I have had the exact same, constantly for well over a year. It can indeed be silent reflux, but it can also be just pure anxiety. Even if you don't feel particularly anxious, because it has become a bit of a fixation that you notice - then you'll continue to notice. It's a really horrible affliction. I got sent to ENT for a camera to check and everything was fine, which is good to know, but I do still feel it. I think if the root anxiety is controlled it really can make it better and can take it away completely

Thank you for your reply jmcg, I think anxiety plays a part in mine,it is not so bad when not stressed but always there and have a strange taste in my mouth on occassions too, but when I ask doctor if I should see my gi specialist as I have colitis as well so would see the same person, he brushed it off, sick of doctors telling me it is anxiety, or nothing to worry about, making me feel stupid for going to see them, I have also had tabbing chest pains, but every time I go drs, they listen to heart and lungs and say the same thing, everything sounds great and clear. x

I'm the same,at times it seems fine then others intolerable, I too get a horrible bitter taste. Strangely though if the lump is there there is no bad taste, but others the bad taste is there but no lump feeling. Very odd but like u drs say its fine
