You can Deffo get dry eye and postrial blephartis from laser surgery.. how can eye strain cause blephartis!? That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

My doctor said blephoritis was caused by eye strain,I had an eye test but my prescription hadn't changed,I put my blurred vision down to dryness as it improves after an hour of my waking up.

Your doctors wrong. You can get eye strain from having blep.. but it doesn't cause it. But yeah blurred vision is linked to dry eye and blephartis. I get it myself often.. can last for days sometimes

Its not caused by eye strain,im sure blurred vision might get worse with eyestrsin. Did he check the gland in your lids?Im assuming he did. If so do you have posterior or anterior. Sometimes you can get the symptoms of dry eye but still have normal tear break up time. Look up mgd eye.

First thing in the morning I do BETTER without my glasses for "near " work such as the computer , in fact at present can read the time / date at the bottom right of the screen at arm's length perfectly without my glasses but as the day progresses my sight deteriates significantly . as with yourself I find that an hour or so of the eyes being in darkness / rested helps .

I het blurred vision also. Mostly the type i can tell is from my tear film. Not so much blurred vision as in reading.

I've had Bleph for about 25 years.  I've never had laser surgery.

I always thought I got Bleph from wearing eye make-up and not

keeping my eyes as clean as I should or throwing away old

eye-make up.  But......years down the road I married a guy with

a brother (who is an Opthamologist)  that has Bleph and he's never worn eye makeup so there goes that theory.

Actually after much reading alot, ive read make up can clog the pores leading to blepharitis. I think my not washing off my eye make up at night caused mine.

Hi all, very interesting to read everyones different experiences and I think we are all just desperate to find answers and explanations for this horrible condition. I had Laser surgery 7 years ago and never had a hint of dry eye or bleph. As far as I know Laser can cause mild to moderate dry eye in the immediate aftermath following the surgery but for modest it goes after a few weeks or months, its only a small percentage of people that it stays with. Ive never heard of the theory that laser causes bleph and God knows Ive done a lot of research. I had an accident with hair dye that basically caused my chronic dry eye and there wasnt a hint of blep until I went for an MRI, literally hours after the MRI the bleph appeared, so where do you go from there???I started on seabuckthorn oil approx 3 weeks ago and have had a marked improvement with the dry eye, Im told if I try the candida or celoiac diet it could rid me of the blep, I will try either but they are very restricitve so have to get my head around that one first.

The more I try to treat my bleph, the worse it becomes.I went to see eye specialist over my dry eyes and he told me it was caused by blepharitis and said hot cloths twice a day then massage lids for one minute.Up until then I didn't think I had any symptoms but a few months on, I get white/yellow lumps which disperse after heated compress but leave my eyelids very sore.Do I carry on or just leave well alone? Confused🤔

Welcome to the confusion couch. I dont know what to do either. The compress at times give me more symptoms.Xx

The heated compresses causes the bacteria in your eyes to grow....that is why you get more symptoms. It is the heat.

Why do the doctors advise this as daily treatment then ?
    • Posted

To help unblock the meibomian glands......

I also think it softens the crusty stuff on eyelids so you can

clean it off.....No doc ever told me anything about meibomian

glands but would be careful about what you put in your eyes.

Of course it's for melting the oils in the meibomian glands. Thats the whole point. Your get better advice on this website then the doctors. They know minimal about blephartis

The whole point is to EXPEL the dirty stuff and THEN clean it away. It's a continuous cycle that has to be done to the full and without a let up . Heat alone won't achieve much by itself . If your eye massage routine ISN'T expressing ALOT then you'll either have to change to another procedure that DOES express bugs , bugs poo and old tissue , or maybe have your glands block and STOP producing NEW oils leaving yourself with even GREATER p[roblems that blepth alone .

I have posterior blepharitis /mgd,every now and then i have mild anterior bleph. I actually produce too much oil, when i did lid massage my eyes get oilly,my lipids arent toothpaste thick just slightly thick,i had some blockages of glands that are now mostly open. I did warm compresses 2x a day for a month, now am advised to cut it to once a day and let up on massage to cut down the oil in my eyes. Everyones different.

If the oil isnt really thick most oil stays in the eye, good part is you dont get dry eye,bad thing is you can get some irritation. Plus some oily vision which takes some time to clear.

You might want to cut the compresses to once a day and try that.

Are the lumps on the rims of your lids. That would be the glands filling with oil.

Yes Lee,when they pop it leaves my eyes very sore for up to 3 days then another one appears..I'm going to stick with it though for a while longer

It's good that you are still producing oils as many of us "older" sufferers are heading in the other direction .

Still makes for discomfort, nothing like greasy vision. Cant win either way. Sigh.
