Laser surgery on veins

Posted , 5 users are following.

Hi last Sat I had laser surgery on veins in my left leg, Because NHS seems not to do the op any more. Had to join a private health Hospital, had no choice as the pain was absolutly unbearable even in bed. I had to wait 6 months before I could have the op. Wondered if any one has had the laser treatment, there was no cuts as in the usual ops. I would like to hear from any one else who has laser treatment.Look forward to soaking off my bandages this after noon.Regards Pamela

Hey! I had laser surgery with avulsions about 2 months ago now. I had it through NHS but had to fight for it. I kept my bandage on for a week and then a stocking for a further week. One of the the avulsion cuts got infected making my leg ache so I kept the stocking on for a further week after that - but the cut healed and my leg started to get better. I still had some bruising and discolouration from where the veins were, but the lumps had gone and the usual v.vein pain and cramps completely went. My leg was very tender for quite a while - I'd say 6 weeks..it was ok but if I touched it it felt bruised. This has now gone and I am using bio oil for my skin which is helping the discolouration fade. Really happy with the results. Hope you have equally as good results smile Good luck smile

    Thank you cat51

Your reply was encouraging, You were so lucky getting that on the NHS. I tried everywhere, even though at my last Doctors I had followed the things she said & met the critera because I had to move hence changing Doctors I could not get it on NHS. Out of that area !! As I said I had to join a private hospital etc. to even get the treatment. But now I am feeling better some what & your words I am glad I had it done, thanks.

yeah I think it's crazy that they refuse people. They refused me because of my age but I argued with them and wrote letters until eventually they changed their decision. So glad I had it done too. Hope you continue to recover well - I am sure you will smile

Hey Tara, I felt a lot of discomfort and some pain for upto 6 weeks afterwards. I had my bandage on for a week and then a stocking for a further 2 weeks as one of my avulsion cuts got infected and it was too painful wihtout support. I noticed the lumps were gone as soon as I took the bandage off - however my leg was a little swollen and sore so it could be that your leg is just bruised and swollen? Did you have EVLA with avulsions of just on its own? x

Hi all just wondered if any of you could give me some advice. Im booked into have veins treated by Evla and foam on 22nd november. Im a bit worried obviously as a 27 year old mother of two after reading these posts will i experience alot of pain after the op. I didnt want time off work do you think this will be required. Also would love to know the outcome of the veins appearance mine arent bad at all i just have two lumps develop on my calf only 3 months ago and one starting to develop on other leg. Are your veins disappearing ? I have severe pain in my left leg but not the right leg the private consultant says to only treat the one and wait for the other one to get bad this seems a bit worrying as wouldnt it be better to treat both legs at the same time to prevent the other leg worsening?.would like your opinions please and outcomes of having evla treatment thanks

Hey! I wouldn't worry too much - I cannot comment for everyone but the pain I had wasn't unbearable - I had the operation on a Wednesday and I was back at work on Monday - so only a couple of days off. They say you can go back after a couple of days but I decided to take the rest of the week off just to rest. You can walk straight after the op - I had to walk from theatre to recovery and then they encourage you to walk around afterwards to help it recover - but obviously rest too. If you work somewhere where you are sitting I don't think it would be a problem to go back after 2 days, if you are standing though you might be adivsed not to so they can fully recover. I only had it on one leg which wasn't due to the appreance, just the pain and cramps. Lumps are completely gone and discolouration also fading. No cramps or pain at all now so very happy with results. Obviously there was some pain for around a week afterwards but after this I had aches sometimes but nothing unbearable. Also one of the cuts from my avulsion got infected which is why I had more pain and for longer than some people who recover more quickly. I would advise to get it done and go for the other when it worsens! Hope this helps

I too am so worried now after reading several posts on this site.  I'm booked in for Thursday 13th both legs on NHS!!  I was ok until I started reading all these posts, mostly negative ones~!   It would seem from the ones I have read that the general consensus would be to not have it?  Would you agree?  I hadnt really thought too much about the actual op, just had been riding along on the thought that after many years of discomfort, not so much pain, but has been very swollen sometimes, that it would all be good after?  My veins arent so lumpy but quite large discoloured patch on left leg and right leg starting to develop, both my parents had them too and my brother has severe dark patches on his legs!  I think I'll keep reading on and try and find a couple of positive posts!

I read a lot of negative stuff before my op and was worried - but the outcome is well worth the procedure. I am 100% happy with the results I have got - I have no pain - my leg is back to normal! I would say to go ahead with it. The risk for me, even after reading all the horror stories, far out weighed having to put up with the pain and cramps and restrictions it gave me day to day. Hope this helps!
