I was in a cast for 2 weeks, then a boot for 4 weeks. last month I went back to my Karate Do-Jo. after 3  1 hour sessions it was all too much and I am in a lot of pain, even walking I cant go very far without my foot aching. I have not had physio. also been told that it could take 12 months or it might never heal. it broke across 2 sections. I am 68 years of age. would it help if I used a walking cane for a while? I appreciate any advise I want to get back to my Karate as soon as possible. thank you

Ricki.

I had surgery on mine and it totally healed in 8 weeks. I was 67 at the tjme and a horse back rider. Never had an issue after. Can you get another opinion? I sure would. Good luck

    Hi Ricki

It sounds to me as though you’ve tried to do too much too soon. If you find walking with a cane helps, then do it. However, leave off the karate for a few months and let your foot heal or you’ll continue to have problems.

I’m currently recovering from tarsometatarsal bone fusion surgery and find walking with a crutch an absolute necessity as my foot quickly tires and becomes painful so it just helps to take the edge off so I can do a little bit more with less pain. As I said, if it helps you, and I’m sure it’ll help your foot, then do it but make sure you’re using your foot correctly when you walk so you don’t develop any bad habits which could cause problems. Physio would help with this.

    Good luck.

Hi Elizabeth, sounds like the thing to do, I just have to be patient.  after 4 months though I would have thought that was enough. my husband is with you ,he says I should wait till next year.

I got a Jones fracture on 2/28 and was in a cam boot for 13 weeks although I didn't wear it around the house for the third month. I am 65 and am happy it is now healing but I need daily exercises to resume full mobility in my ankle and toes. I have a pin from a bunionectomy in my big toe and don't have good movement there thus my balance isn't the best. Are your pains getting better now?
