Lateral Incision

My surgeon will be using a lateral approach to my surgery.  I have started buying things in.  He advises that I may sleep on my side with just a pillow between my knees. However, I am quite long in the leg, and I believe that the pillow will ot be long enough to support my foot on the operated side.  I understand that it is important that the foot and entire leg are kept in alignment.

I know tht ther is a porduct on the market at around £40, but it is quite ugly, and will be of no use to me once I have no further need for it, and it is rally not something to sell on.  I am wondering is a conventional double bed sized bolster would do the trick.  They are about 1/4  the cost!

I've just been using a small rectangular sofa cushion. I found I really only need it between my knees when side sleeping and, for the first few weeks, under my knees when back sleeping. It's about 50cm x 20cm. It used to be my stomach pillow when I was a tummy sleeper.

I just used a couch cushion, about 8 inch by 8 inch, found the really well filled tight cushion did the trick.

I put it in a double pillow case for protection and then washed everthing afterwards.

Hi Susie I am tall and like you I thought the pillow would be too short so my daughter stitched two light pillows together to make one long pillow

and you just put ordinary pillow cases one on each end and hey presto

one long pillow at no cost and really comfy as well

I must admit it done the trick for me cannot say I got to sleep better as I still struggle trying to sleep but I am nice and comfy while reading and do

eventually drop off to sleep 😴😴😴

    Good luck

      Good Morning, Helen:

I had the very same idea, as I have bought extra down filled pillows, and was worried that if the were stitched together, there would be a di in the middle just where it was not needed. I will check this out, see what can be done.

      Best regards
