Lateral Internal Sphincterotomy

After 3 years of suffering with a chronic fissure I underwent a LIS two weeks ago tomorrow. Prior to this I wasted a year with Ditalizam cream and a try with botox neither made a dent.

Unfortunately, while only 39 I am a bit of a surgery veteran. Notwithstanding, giving the location of this surgery I was rather anxious.

All I can say for anyone suffering from this, do not delay another day! I woke up in recovery and has pain i put at a 2/10. I then road shotgun on my hip for 4 hours on the way home in no discomfort at all. Bake some bran muffins, eat one a day, metamucil 2x/day and other than that just keep drinking water. Avoid heavy foods for a while, fish, veggies, chicken, rice and pasta passed just fine for me. The morning after i was terrified of my first bowel movement, surprise surprise no pain whatsoever. Not even a spot of blood. i have not had a spot of blood since i took the dressing off the morning after. I'd literally rather have this surgery than get my teeth cleaned. When i say no pain i mean none whatsoever.

Anyone in Ontario, Canada shout out to and see Dr Marcus Burnstien at St Mike's in Toronto. No idea how he did this so clean but he did.

Don't question it another second.

PS incontinence issues non existent. From the night I got home it still took effort to get a fart out.

Hope this helps someone. Cheers

Wow, that's great to hear! Congratulations on getting your life back. I am scheduled for my LIS surgery at the end of this month. Both excited and scared, but simply can't live like this any longer. Living in this pain is no life at all.

Thank you for sharing your story!

Thank you! I go in tomorrow and was terrified by what others have been saying about the recovery. I kind of felt like based on what they were saying, I'd rather have pain and burning 24 hours a day over sharting myself, and the pain that was felt. Thank you!!
