Lateral release

Hi all, I had a TKR in October 2018 I am in Australia. The surgery wasn't the best and never want to go though that again. I did all my exercises with my physio and still are. I am having problems with my patella getting stuck.

I saw my specialists yesterday and he wants to do a Lateral release , I am wondering if anyone on here knows much about it.

My patella snapped off the ligaments holding it in place after my left TKR. It ended up on the outside if my knee and i could never do leg raises. the surgeon had me wear a leg brace for 3 months and it did nothing. He then suggested more surgery. i had no confidence in him and asked for a second opinion. Luckily i went to an orthopedic hospital and the head surgeon saw me. I ended up having the first knee removed as my leg was slanted. It was my 2nd TKR in 10 months. its been four months since my second surgery and I am so pleased that i insisted on a second opinion.

OMG I hope that doesn't happen to me, it's not been much fun. I don't think I would do it again. I was thinking of a second opinion so if this doesn't work, that is what I will be doing next. thanks

My first surgeon had problems stabilizing the patella during the first surgery and told me he hadnt seen this happen in years. I didnt have the cofidence in his ability to do tge second surgery. I was shocked when the second surgeon said he would have to do a completely new knee. Within a month i had the second surgery. I am so glad I didnt let my first surgeon operate on me again.

I have been wearing a knee brace for the past 3 months which has helped me a lot. My Dr kept tell me it would get better give it time and excercise which I did. Now he wants to do this surgery lateral release , you put your faith in theses Dr' s thinking they know what is best.

My physio was blown away as much as me because there was no talk of this before. So I will have it done , if it doesn't help I will do as you have said and get a second opinion.

If you have confidence in your surgeon then i would go ahead but if you have and doubts get a second opinion before the surgery.
