Lateral THR

I'm 65 and having a lateral THR (left) on Monday 4/25. Just wondering if anyone else has had a lateral? I'm such a side sleeper - totally - so I'm wondering how that will work. Also I work from home managing my boss' website and database, uploading his radio programs, answering emails, etc. and since I'm the only one that handles it, I can't really let it fall behind. Hoping for the best!

Thanks so much, Renee. I'm getting ready to head to the hospital shortly. Overall I'm fairly calm I know many people are praying for me and God is good. Hopefully this will bring a big change for the better.

      Blessings

Good luck today, as Renee said, just give in now, let the people who know what they are doing put you back together again, welcome to hippyhood its a journey of ups and downs, the bigger the up the smaller the down.

See you on the hippy side.

Good luck Patiotoole, big day today.

I'm still sleeping on my back, tried a couple of times on the side this last week, see my consultant next week, will be 11 weeks. The first few weeks the hardest.

Hope your surgery went well. I am on week 11 from lateral thr. I am a stomach and side sleeper. I spent my first 6 weeks sleeping in my recliner as that was most comfortable. My husband raised it up with a platform so I wouldn't break the 90 degree rule. Though I never before could sleep sitting up. I went back to bed sleeping at 6 weeks with just minutes initially on my operated side. My scar was healed well.  But could sleep on my nonoperated side with a pillow between my legs. I have just this last week given up my pillow and can sleep normally leg on leg. I still can only sleep on my operated side for shorter periods of time, but it gets easier each week.

Thank you so VERY MUCH. That is such encouraging news. I would be happy to be able to sleep on either side at this point! So at which week were you able to sleep on your non-operated side?

I did at 6 weeks but only because it was more comfortable for me to sleep in my recliner before that. I tried sleeping in bed on my back but just couldn't stand the throbbing pain it caused at night. As long as you keep a pillow between your legs to keep your hips level you should be able to try. But keep in mind your Dr may say differently. You need to go with what he tells you. From what I understand it depends on what type of mechanics they used also. Cemented or non-cemented. I had longer precautions for doing many exercises than most also.

It just wasn't comfortable for me to sleep comfortably in bed on my back even with pillows or a wedge. So I slept in the recliner at night until I could try sleeping in bed on my side.

Actually I believe mine is not cemented from what I was told. I will check on that; however I'm nearly sure of it. My orthopedic surgeon told me that I could safely lie on my 'operated' side after the first week or so but everyone else seems to say otherwise so I've been nervous. Of course, he has clarified that I would need to have a big body pillow between my legs if I were on my side -- to ensure that my hips remained in alignment. At any rate, I have felt so very encouraged to know that you have done so successfully. I will be seeing him again in 10 days and, if I have not already side slept by then, I will be sure to get his specific okay and proceed.  Again, Thanks so much!
