Lazy bowel never gets in gear.

So for over 8 years I've suffered from lazy bowel movements/ incomplete evacuation. to me its a form of chronic constipation, although i do have a B.M almost every day, it's the manner in which i go, its like there is zero contraction in my colon and i hardly ever feel the urge to go, its kind of like my bowel and brain don't communicate with each other. My diet is good, note fiber makes things worse. please help!

Hey Rob, I've been struggling with slow bowel transit for years and after been told to eat more fibre I've realised fibre makes things so much worse!

I follow a pretty low fibre diet and use the FODMAP diet as guidance.

I also take daily laxatives, my preference is movicol or laxido.

It might be worth mentioning that slow bowel transit can be a symptom of something else going on in the body so maybe it's worth asking your doctor if there could be a root cause.

I'm currently under specialists as they think I have an auto immune disorder and slow bowel transit can occur in problems with the immune system.

I have also just had colorectal surgery for intussusception and prolapse and my surgeon thinks that if the constipation doesn't improve it could potentially be rectified by having a colon resection as it shortens the journey the poo needs to travel so it makes things easier.

My advice is get seen by a specialist if you aren't already under one because if you have been struggling to poo for such a long time it can end up causing a prolapse.

    Take care 🙂
