Left Arm Pain for days

Posted , 5 users are following.

Hi about 4 months ago i started having chest pains and arm pains did ecg echo chest x ray and blood work and all results came out fine. Doctors ruled it to anxiety and think that these pains maybe muscular as well. For days i had been having this arm pain that comes and goes during specific times but there isn't anything that triggers them and i'm quite worried that it could be heart related and i'm quite freaking out.

What could be the cause of this? Anyone had a similar issue.

By the way i'm 21 male non smoker not overweight and my family doesn't have history of heart condition

I have exactly the same as you only mine started 12. Months ago, mine comes for weeks then gos for weeks then back again, I've had the same diagnosis as you to, it's got me out my mind with worry if been looking in to costochondritis as I do have a sore breast bone when I press on it, do you? I've also had a headache for 3 week every day which is now scaring me into thinking I have a tumour, do you suffer headaches?

Yes i do have the same thing but normally arm pain is not associated with costochondritis that's why i'm worried. Headaches normally come when i'm anxious about this issue all day that my mind couldn't take it anymore

I went to see gp today she said headache could be anxiety and asked me to keep headache diary

Also if you look on costochondritis on this site a lot of people with the condition say they expreanice arm pain

but for how long can costochondritis be affecting the pains? Yesterday i went out and an area of my chest was in pain with cold weather. It was affecting like a part of the ribs and then when i went inside it totally stopped hurting.

Been told headache could be anxiety by gp today, go and see what your gp says. Also migraine can cause arm sensations and blurred vision

    Hi,

Have you experienced any injury before that may have been caused by a blunt or force? It could be a joint injury or pinch nerve.

Avoid doing activities that can strain your left arm; apply cold compress; or try stretching or massaging the affected area.

I hope your condition improves and I wish you well.

      Hi,

Yes but the problem is that usually the pain spreads through my whole arm. Through when i'm pressing the tennis elbow part it hurts so it could probably be that as well.

      Thank you.

My daughter has had this for years since she was a teenager and was also diagnosed as having anxiety. She is now 24 and has been diagnosed as having PoTS. Look this up on the potsuk.org and if this looks like you go back to your GP and ask for a referal to someone who specialises in this area.

We were lucky to end up at the right person via another consultant. She is far from well but has just started taking some medication which we hope will help when we get to the right dose.

Best wishes to anyone trying to get a diagnosis- remember you are not mad - Dr do not always know the answer.

      Hi Alison,

Thank you for your help. I went to a lot of different gp's and never mentioned this condition and thought that since the tests related to the heart came out normal they are ruling it to anxiety and muscular pain.

Yes her cardiologist tests seemed to come out normal as well. The new consultant did a tilt table test and a pulmonary exercise test as well as echo and ecg’s. It was the classic PoTS result from the tilt test that lead to a diagnosis.
