Left furlong

I received my appointment letter yesterday and in addition to the dates and timings it indicated that I will be having a 'left furlong

total hip replacement'.

I am not sure what the term left furlong means?

Can anyone help please?

Hi there - I had my right hip replaced back in May and it was a Furlong hip that was used.

I've had zero issues with this - my range of movement is just superb. Occasional discomfort when laying on operated side but that is probably scar tissue from the 3 major operations on that hip.

frequently walk over 5 miles with the dog - no pain or discomfort.

    Brilliant.

I'm quite young in the THR world at 44 but the consultant said the Furlong is one of the most respected hip replacements - it has been around for a while - mine is ceramic on ceramic which should last 20-25 years at least.

I'm at the point now where it barely crosses my mind that I have even had a hip replacement - feels as strong and as flexible as my 'good' leg.
